I think people should not be able to get the dole until they are 21 years old. People between the ages of 18-21 should be in school college or youth reach not on the dole.

i guess you're not 18-21 or even on the dole for that matter! Easy 4 you to say! Weren't sayin that in celtic tiger days when there were jobs?? Hmmm.... Not every 18-21 lives at home, some have children and support themselves. Everyone is TOTALLY different and has different circumstances so come back to me when someone you know is 18-21 with no job or money and see how you feel... I'm 27 with a job so im not biased, just think you're being OTT with the tar and brush

I agree 100%, 18-21 year olds are one of the main reason this country is in the current economic mess. Their shameless decisions, actions and pure greed during the Celtic tiger years have brought this county to it's knees.

We should divert all the money they currently get off the social welfare to aid the banks and FF TD's pension funds, we all know they are 100% blameless for our current situation.

I'm 19 myself, I have been working from 17 to 19, through last year of school, first year of college, and recently lost my job, but also failed my first year of college.

Why shouldn't I be allowed claim the dole?

Well you see, you are easy pickings, I'm not talking about you specifically but rather your age group. Your voice is smaller, you're typically less likely to vote or protest.

It's more than a little ironic that our young people are being penalised more heavily and they are least likely to have any hand or part in what brought us to this point.

I'm not against cuts but they should be fair and equitable. Is it cheaper to feed, clothe and house a 19 year old than a 21 year old or, for that matter, a pensioner of 65?
