00 bmw 318 coupe - thoughts

very picky female friend has her heart set on a 318 coupe, but she doesnt have great amount to spend somewhere between 5000 and 6000

any thoughts would be very much appreciated, what faults should we look out for, why she shouldnt buy this car for ect.

That model has the old 1.9 litre engine which wasn't very powerful or economical. The 2001 onwards 318i got a much better 2.0 litre engine which is more powerful and fuel efficent.

cheers, so it would probably be worth the extra 1000 going for a 01 model?

You should be more than able to get an 01 with the N42 2Lt Engine for 5-6. There are plenty around. But there are also plenty of dogs bear that in mind.

i sold a mint 02 imola red msport coupe for 6k about a year ago..ud buy a 02 msport now for no more than 4500

there is nothing unusual to watch out for with the petrols, go for an 02 or later ideally, more powerful and fuel efficient. Get the car checked by the likes of Ac before purchase. You would get an 02 for between 5-6k. If she is patient, she could possibly pick up an msport for that money...
