Cant believe it, must have changed the rules, if u are your on sw at the moment can u not just stay on it and if can't get that try maintenance from local authority all failing the Health Board in your area give discretionary payments but maybe not if ur living at home.

Hope something works out for you.

    Hi all,
    I have a few PPc1 related questions!

Has anyone else only sent off their deed of indentures and fees this week? I only got mine out in the post on friday but hopefully I'll still be able to go.

Does anybody know what the uptake for PPC1 is like this year?

How would a person just coming from a small local firm fit in in PPC1 in Dublin?

How difficult are the exams at the end? As difficult as the FE1's?

Finally, would anybody consider getting the locker? 50euro seems a bit steep...

Thanks if anyone has any answers to my questions or wants to add anything :)

No problem. In fact, the broad experience that a small practice gives you will be a help. The apprentices of the big 5 do tend to stick together but you get to know your tutorial group very well.

Not really. they are open book. my housemate did them last year. she said that if you attend tutorials and do the sample questions, you will be ok. having said that, they failed alot last year probably because there is a glut of solicitors.

Finally, would anybody consider getting the locker? 50euro seems a bit steep...
Definitely get one. the amount of notes is unreal and you don't want to haul them home every evening.

shameless plug: if you or anybody else are looking for accomodation, I have a spare room - see earlier post.

Locker is waste of money - the 50 is non refundable.
Got one and never used it. Just bring all your stuff home and take in whatever you need day by day.

Does ppc1 only start in september?

Yes, only once a year. So, you have to have all FE1's, and a training contract by next August.

Yep, a couple of years ago they used to have one starting in the summer too to cope with the demand, alas that is no longer a problem

    Hi,

I'm in Blackhall at the moment and I paid my own fees, does anyone have any info on how to claim tax back on the fees?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Strictly

To claim tax back on your fees that you paid in August/Sept 2010 you have to have paid tax during the tax year 2010. You can only claim up to 5k of the fees, that is 20% of 5K which is 1K you should get back. If you got a Grant for part of the fees you just get back 20% of what you paid. If you did not pay Tax your parent can claim the tax for you. You get the form from the Revenue and you have to include the Law Society receipt.

Am heading to PPC1 Blackhall in Sept' 2011 and am wondering if anyone knows of any decent -ish digs near by, as I'll be coming up from the country?

    any help/ advice appreciated

Don’t know how familiar you are with Dublin, but anywhere in D7 would be perfect as It’d be right beside Blackhall – it can be a bit of a mixed bag, some areas are nice, ultra modern – Smithfield Square for e.g. – other areas would be older, not as nice.

Apart from that, D2, D4 and D6 are relatively near, have buses that go by Blackhall (the 37 and 39) and are very nice areas where cheapish accom can be found.

As re. exams for PPC1, what are they like? it is my understanding that the exam questions are covered to some extent beforehand in the tutorials, so that there are no real surprises- is this the case? how did the ppc1 exams go for everyone recently?

applied land law (conveyancing and landlord and tenant) is a bitch......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭Snatchy

They are tough and if anybody tells you different they're lying. Will be interesting to see how they mark them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Farcear

Criminal was a bit rough today but, in general, they've seemed very, very doable.

Still, it will be very interesting to see how (easy or otherwise) they're marked...

The lease shorter thana sub lease threw me a bit in conveyancing. They are tough enough but i think it's almost as much to do with the fact you have fifty books out in front of you and being cut-throat with your time.
