thank christ some of you realise that this has nothing to do with tiger kidnapping and everything to do with the moola the gov is losing in taxes thanks to cash in hand black economy labour.

tiger kidnaping involve taking money from the VAULT anyway. not the ATMs. the focus of the charge on them is about stopping joe public using them and possbily using it to avail of tax free services (nixers) .

to be brutally honest this crap has been going on for years, theres banks out there right now that refuse to deal in cash as it costs them an arm and a leg to transport and store and Govs LOVE the idea of being able to account for every transaction in the country as it'd mean the death of the black economy.

its the main drive of the cashless society as far as the government is conscerned.

they really couldnt give a monkeys abourt some random employee's missus getting kidnapped.

Hear hear. They take us for some mugs don't they. Instead of putting charges on getting cash why not get tough on the criminals through the judiciary & give the gardai better powers to round these gangs up, which peculiarly is Dermot Ahern's responsibility.

My favourite line from the whole article:
Ahern: “If you go to most European countries, you’ll find there’s less cash swilling around than in Ireland.”

Oh yes, we're swilling in it! Jahsus there's money being flung round the country!
Great verb. Implies that tiger raids occur because of the selfish Irish piggy wiggys who don't want to use debit cards.

They get charged a set fee by the bank per transaction AFAIK. And if you use a credit card the shop gets charged a percentage of the total.

So the logical thing would be to charge the customer the 20 cent bank charge, no? I often spend 2-3 euros in the petrol station and pay by debit card. It sounds like another in a long list of things that work perfectly well in other countries but don't fit with Irish logic.
