Yeah, see the difference is I just couldn't be arsed, and I put my not being arsed above any appearance factor. Besides, I'll have to be clean shaven in my professional life. When I'm a scummy student, I may as well look like a scummy student/vagrant.

I had great plans to put some fake tan on for the weekend as i'm going to EP (obviously not the wash off kind!) but with all the comments I'm not so sure now! I'm blonde, only wear fake tan sometimes as generally I can't be arsed. Didn't realise blonde and (fake) tanned was such a turn off!!!

Like I said I never said it was unattractive on everyone, I was seeing why a lot of girls have the exact same look.

Insecurity issue probably. They need to feel like they belong. They copy a certain celebrity as they see them as cool and popular. Friends do the same thing so they don't feel left out. So you get a whole bunch of them looking the same. Someone already mentioned the TV show The Hills. I'd blame a lot of that look on that show. There were probably others before it though.

I don't think its that difficult to understand.

You are almost too smart for your own good. I never said i didnt fully understand, i just refused to believe that 90% of women i see on a daily basis are insecure. I think the insecurity issue is BS to be honest although I can believe the celebrity factor has a lot to do with it. Pathetic really.

I always thinks its funny the way some Irish girls are desperate to look as if they have a tan while if you go to India, Japan and parts of South America not having a tan (being pale) is considered super attractive. Everyone should just swap places :pac:
Yeah but theres a huge difference between a girl throwing on a bit of make-up & someone who looks like she's been drinking too much orange soda.

    Who loves orange soda?.......

Can't believe no one said "Kel loves orange soda :(".

You'd be surprised. I know a lot of women who won't leave the house without a full face of make-up on them.

You're full of compliments btw. Thanks!

    That's fair enough.
Most people would feel the same way. Most people are also sane. :)

In all honesty, it less to do with confidence and more to do with not giving a flying **** what people think of you.
This brings me back to the topic at hand.
You are what you are. You can dress yourself up in order to find a partner, but they will eventually see the real you, and they may not like it.
Rather than pretending to be something that you are not, you should just be honest about who you are.

I'm not saying that you should go out looking like a tramp, or that you should just let yourself go. All you need to do is be yourself.
If you feel the need to paste fake tan all over your body, then you obviously have low self esteem and should probably try to tackle that.

In saying that, being proud of having an extremely obese figure is not something to be proud of. If you think it is, then you should probably see a dietician and try to lose weight.

This is the word of Terry. Praise be to Terry.

*"You" is not directed towards the person I quoted or any person in particular.

Yeah, they love the pale skin. This is mainly due to the paler you are the wealthier you are in these countries - you're not out working in the fields with the sun hitting ya.

I think the fake tan took off during the 60's and was probably due to the popularity of Sophia Loren or someone of that ilk.

Ah jeez Terry, d'ya not remember your history classes back in the day??

The pale skin thing was IN way back when cos it proved that the woman didn't have to be out in the sun working, she had servants etc for that..... showed she (or her family) had money

Then in the more recent past having a tan showed that the woman (or her family) had the money to head off on holidays on a big ship or more recently again on an aeroplane to the south of france, canaries etc....

Then Mick O Leary came along and said "CHEAP FLIGHTS (before terms, conditions, my cut, baggage charges, wheelchair charges, breathing air charges, not having printed off your tickets at home charges)and made it all a lot more affordable for all!!

i just refused to believe that 90% of women i see on a daily basis are insecure. I think the insecurity issue is BS to be honest although I can believe the celebrity factor has a lot to do with it. Pathetic really.

Then you really need to talk to mental health professionals in this country.:( Insecurities issues, and problems connected with them anarexia/BDD/BED/bulimia are very common, and becoming more so, and not just among women. It's very few people talk about it, not wanting to draw more attention to their precieved flaws.

Although media is a factor, it is not as simple as Ooh (insert celeb) gets attention/is pretty/successful, I want be like her/him. I'll wear fake tan and get hair extensions. Insecurities and body image problems are highly complex issues, with founding in the pyschology and neuro-chemical make up of a person.

Anyway, moving on to a lighter note! I'm naturally blonde (currently sporting brunnette) and I occasionally wear fake tan. I have a lot of scarring on my body, and fake tan makes it less noticable.

I only use a light coating as I'm naturally pale. But my scarring has in the past, stopped me from socialising, and even though I may get negative comments, if I wear fake tan. I'd prefer to made fun of for it than the scarring.

Also as Larianne mentioned, some women not leaving the house without make-up. I am one of those ppl. I simply refuse.* I do however sport a 'natural' look, and I've noticed tht it is often claimed that men prefer no-make-up, most can't tell. They will pick out a pick of a girl with natural make-up. lets be honest, it's the pink lips/long lashes /crystal clear complexion tht is attractive!

    *{however I wouldn't allow girls in school to wear make-up but thts for a different thread:rolleyes:.}

Let me start off by saying I'm not judging appearances or slagging anyone before the PC police shoot me down. Is there a new cult in Ireland or something? Taking a leisurely stroll through Dublin today I have never seen so many women big, small, average etc with fake tan and blonde hair. Can anyone shed a light on this? Does fake tan and blonde hair give you superhuman sexual powers? Is there a new cult I'm not aware of?

what rock have you been under for the last 10 ++ years fake tan and bottle blonde eh whats the world coming to next you know........

Why thank you :). In truth i have more self-respect than to essentially cold-call girls irl for a date. I go out to have fun. If you'd call this self-respect an "insecurity", then i guess i do (although i wonder if you'd have the same "insecurity" about approcahing guys on a night out). But that's beside the point really.

Rightly or wrongly, I do associate a certain look with a sort of stereotypical D4, materialistic, morally-vaccuous attitude (essentially female "douchebags"). I can't help thinking that a lot of other guys (the type who are looking for a proper relationship rather than an easy lay) feel the same.

hey your the one equating a lady with a tan to a stone cold prick teaser. bit of broad stereotyping on your part

im not sure what me approaching guys has anything to do with it either

Not necessarily - depends on how it's applied, how smooth the skin is, what type of fake tan it is, etc.
I put a tiny bit of the subtle stuff (the one which "builds" up a glow after a few applications) on my legs - not to make them look tanned (I'm pale and being tanned wouldn't suit me) but to give them a hint of a glow rather than leave them milky white, and you wouldn't know I'm wearing it. I apply it very carefully and very little of it.

People see me for who I am. I am who I am, I could be better & I could be worse.
I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. In the past I was guilty of that, but not in recent years.
Your photo actually made me smile. I looked & thought 'there's a man who is out for the craic & doesn't give fcuk'.

How dare you judge a woman on her looks.
Fake tan and blonde hair makes them feel better about themselves. It's not up to you to decide what is attractive.
    Typical male chauvinist post.

To be fair, the same type of stereotyping can apply to pricks who dress like this. These kind of guys are just as prevelant as the women the OP described. Although pointing the finger at one gender is a little chauvanist.

If you're going to show off your cleavage, then cover your legs and vice versa.

A really short skirt with a really short top and tons of make up just shows insecurities.

    That's just my opinion though.

Oh, you're such a stealer. Wish I knew how to link to a post I made in another thread.;)

Personally, I think that blokes are confused (dishonest) about what they find attractive, so it would be wierd if wimminz had a clue.
I had a very attractive mate who was naturally blonde and she dyed her hair black cos she fancied a change. She noticed that she didn't get half the attention from fellas that she used to get. I argued that this was due to the fact that black wasn't her natural hair colour. A massive debate (read drinking session) ensued and the only thing we could come up with to prove/disprove theories was to get our equally good-looking brunette mate to dye her hair blonde for a couple of weeks and see how it went.
She noticed a huge surge in interest but not necessarily from the sort of blokes that she wanted a surge in interest from.

Gentlemen prefer blondes? Gentlemen marry brunettes?

I dunno. I do know though that Madeleine Stowe and Audrey Hepburn are probably the two most beautiful women I have ever seen yet it would be Farrah Fawcett or Marilyn Monroe that would make me turn my head if they walked past me on Grafton St.

I think blonde hair and tans are instantly more flashy and us blokes are essentially magpies.

All that glitters is not gold.

    Just my opinion.:o
