    Poor old Shane.

Frozen forever in our national consciousness as an affectionate alcoholic joke that has become as much a full-time profession as an affliction.

really? did he pen some good lyrics or something cos i hate the pogues. i don't know at what point the booze / drugs turned him into complete retard but he seems like a chronic vegetable to me, and proud of it

proof that if you have a brazen shameless self-confidence no matter what, some naive chick will still shack up with you.

    :D

Puts me in mind of the anecdote about Bez. It went along the lines of him being overheard complaining back in the day that he was sick of Es (while necking them in bulk) and somebody asked him why he didn't just have a pint instead, to which he replied, "It's me job innit?".

Of course he could look as if he'd been very, very badly burned in a chemical fire and people would still remember him as the man who wrote A Rainy Night in Soho and Irish Rover

Some ignorant gobshíte writing for that there website.

he looked a bit weary when i showed him the sole E i ever did in my life, by the sound desk during soundcheck in a galway marquee years ago. seen one too many by then i guess

    - isn't he in jail right now instead of BB? for a domestic.. had been strangling his bird apparently

The man is an embarrassment to Ireland, or rather, England, as he's English. The Irish accent is a stage thing. On a related note, why do some people get teary-eyed when 'The Fields of Athenry' is played? The song was written in the 1980s!

I spent a weekend with Shane and the Popes about 10 years ago when they ended up in Chicago. I had a cousin that was touring with them. Truly one of the more interesting weekends of my life.

he was born in kent england when his parents were visiting relatives in england. Spent 6 years after that in Ireland. 2 irish parents.

i know a few first and second generation irish who live in england who consider themselves irish.

He's a ***ken legend. Wrote some great songs. Whatever state he is in at the moment it doesnt take away from any of his achievments.
