I was just looking at afew items and it says that I can get them delivered to Ireland for 30 dollars and this would be inclusive of taxes and duties. Am I missing something here?

    http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/help/europe.jsp

Is there another tax that customs in Ireland can apply?

The taxes and duties would be the US ones.

The seller/merchant would not be able to pay the destination country's customs fees in advance. You may (depending on declared value) have to pay customs fees of up to 21% ( AFAIR)

    VAT.

Seems that if you selevt UPS shipping, Urban Outfitters will add relevant duties & taxes to the order at the checkout and therefore the order is "precleared" for the consumer and no further charges will apply.

In the background, Urban Outfitters have applied the vat & duty and will pay this to ups who will pay customs & excise.

So the $55 dress will show $70 or similar at the checkout afet vat & duty is added.

So, I would be as well spend over $150 and less than 150 euro and just use usps and just get stung for VAT but have free shipping?

I put the UPS way through the checkout and the estimated tax was 0.00

Does this mean the tax is included in the 30 dollars?

That seems to be what they are doing. So the best option is to go for UPS shipping as $150 + duty + vat + clearance charges (an post charge €6 will mean approx €40.

$30 ups shipping equates to about €25

technically they're not paid before sending.. they are calculated by customs when they arrive in and then billed back to the shipper. they just take a guess of the fees and add them on to the price they charge you.

Sorry for been slow guys. So would my best option be to do the UPS. I am worried about the UPS though as if you order over 150 dollars, the UPS charge lessens to 20 dollars. Surely It should increase?

I just want to make sure that I don't get stung for more taxes if I go the UPS route because the 20 dollars they are charging seems to be too good to be true.

Dazzler, I think you're getting confused.

    1. You don't have an option between UPS and USPS (the United States Postal Service). As it is an international order, it will be shipped by them to you via UPS.

    2. UPS will (estimate and charge you) the duties and shipping costs - and add it to the final amount you pay. If the duties and shipping costs drops to $20 for an order over $150, so be it - it just shows you how much they are overestimating by, in the first place.

The clothes I am looking at are only available on the US site. Also, the US site is an awful lot cheaper than the europe site.

UO just emailed me back saying "Thank you for your email. You will need to ship your package via UPS International to avoid paying duties and taxes for international delivery."

I take this as pretty conclusive. Sweet deal though seeming as the more stuff you buy, the less UPS international you have to pay( 20 dollars for orders over 150 dollars.)
