I had an image on the background which i created myself.
When i booted the computer today it was just on a black background.

After looking for the original i could not find it.

Will windows have stored this image elsewhere when i set it as a background?

Have you any idea what you named the file as? I assume it was a jpg? you could try searching the hard disk for it.

No idea what it was called.
I use both jpg and png images and it was a very long time ago so ive no idea where i had it originally saved.

Ive tried searching for it but no joy.

Well if it just suddenly disappeared, have you tried the recycle bin in case you deleted it?

    Hi,

you could try searching in the following location:

    c:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes

I took an image from a removable hdd, copied it to 'My Pictures', set it as desktop backround and then deleted it from 'My Pictures'. The image remained as desktop wallpaper. I then browsed the contents of the folder mentioned above and found my image named as 'TranscodedWallpaper.Jpg'

    Hope this helps,

    J

For future reference, a handy way to find files that have been misplaced is to open the advanced windows serch options - specify a rough date range for when you think the file was created/modified and do a search for *.*

From this you will be able to list all file from that period and it should be in there.
