Looks like a non runner to me, as he doesn't say it's a turbo I can only presume it's the 3SGE powered ones, they are non interference so by him saying the belt needs replacing I reckon it's snapped and so as it stands she'll need trailoring away. Might be wrong though (I rarely am though :D )

Just to see how I've faired out in the 4 years I've been driving cheapish yokes I consulted my excel file. Seemed a good time as I don't intend rebuilding / replacing the box nor paying for it to be done so I've written off the Coupe essentially. Although some bits may used, dunno though, too early to say.

So 7 cars over the 4 years (almost, October 2006 to now), including depreciation / appreciation and all maintenance, tyres, servicing etc but not including tax, insurance or petrol / diesel

Spent €14783.61 (€10830 was the actual total purchase price of the 7 cars)

    Got back €12090

    drove 46,500 miles

    Suppose it's ok ish.

Apologies for the off topic but it's not too bad a place for such info.

    :D

Got €250 for the Rover Coupe, she was just a framed away
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1510202

so €12090 now becomes €12340

I'm getting loads of calls on the Saab, one lad just sold a carbon copy of it, (but it was a Viggen) for nearly three times what I'm asking so hopefully all goes well :)

That's a grand total of €50 spent per month :D

If as the seller says the car is in good running order this one must be a bit of a steal! -

NCT'd for over a year and all for only €200. Is my post todays winner on this thread?

My word, it sold pretty quick. I would imagine he got the full asking price.

Well, it makes the Rover Coupe needing a gearbox and NCT for €250 look awful expensive :D

I'm starting to think auto is over rated in older, smaller engines... If it was a 3 or 4L maybe, but a outdated 2.0 with a crappy 4 speed auto won't do many favours! Plus you could have a bit of fun with the manual

    +1 for lazy driving..

I agree with lm too it's better to have big cc for an auto..
Just took out my w124 for a jaunt up the Wicklow mountains, poor thing was struggling - great spin tho :D

does anyone know if climate control can be retrofitted to the e39 ? wish i had 1400 euro to spare :(

edit : just noticed no leather, nice daily driver, but it could have been a super bargain luxobarge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,161 ✭✭✭af_thefragile

I don't really mind the lack of leather.
It does seem to have some body work damage but doesn't look too bad.
140k miles doesn't seem too high either for a car of this age.
Its got NCT and service history.
And its automatic which is always something good...

I'ld consider going for it if I had money to spare...

Nice car! As previously mentioned, auto would be a much better option though. Also, that "dent" on the passenger side looks like it has been filled in (badly) and rusted.

    .

Not in a 520i of that era. Far too underpowered, the manuals are bad enough.

Sometimes underpowered is ok though. Never underestimate the power of laziness :D

Bargain banger right there. Very good.

The term banger is a bit harsh though to most of the cars in this thread, to me a banger is a rusty, smoke belching heap of sh1te that people drove years ago before the NCT and general prosperity came in.

Happy motoring, she'll go forever, the interior is nice in that one, the blue interior in mine was rotten.
I reckon after you do a good few miles in her you'll wonder why the W124 is so highly rated.
