Only us and the Brits call them Daddy Long Legs but it is actually a crane fly to the rest of the world.

Cock robin is right the spider in his pic is a Daddy Long Legs. Some Daddy Long legs are more venomous than some of your well known deadly spiders. But only to other spiders :D

I lived with a dude who was a insect and spider freak :D and knew everything about them. :D:D

It's probably healthier to eat that crane fly, than wash your hands in the sink OP.

I call them horse flies. And the spiders posted above daddy long legs.
A horse fly is something different altogether, horseflies bite and give you hives.

No only in the US and maybe Canada is a Daddy Long-Legs a spider. As pointed out, in Ireland and the UK, a Crane fly is called a Daddy Long-Legs.

Edit: Actually if you check the Wikipaedia link from the post just before my first post it actually confirms this. Not that means a whole lot. But there is also a shit-load of anecdotal evidence.

They're horseflies, what is wrong with you people?

A daddy long legs can't fly and it has 8 legs

Edit: Wasn't this on Boards a couple of years ago too?
