    I really have no idea... I must also say it was with the camera on my phone, but still... its a bizarre one alright

    The camera probably uses some scan method to read from the imaging chip. It scans one row or column at a time into a buffer to make up the eventual image. Reading each scan line is fast, so the image appears sharp, but reading the entire series of scan lines takes a finite amount of time, so any camera movement will result in distortion of the image similar to what you see here. I'd wager you wobbled the phone a little as the image was being taken. It's a similar issue to using a slit scan shutter in which the slit can move relatively slowly across the image plane, while only exposing the film or sensor very briefly.

    They look like Green Shield Bugs, Palomena prasina. Most common of the Shield Bugs.
