New 'Adult' channel on Chorus/UPC value pack

I'm aware some people may feel differently about this, but I've just realised that the Value pack which we have contains a new channel, Angels TV, for 'adult viewing only.
This is completely unacceptable. I object to the fact that my subscription is paying for the "privilege" of obtaining that channel. If someone wants that they can it have a Pay Per View channel.

Yes, I can and have locked it, but my objections are two fold:
    a) it is there
    b) I've paid moneyy and I'm forced to accept this dross.

Not acceptable. It'a meant to be a family pack.

You should contact UPC if you are not happy with a channel being included on your subscription.

Put a PIN number on it and dont watch it; its not hard. If you had Sky youd get an awful lot more adult channels...

Does anyone else have problems locking certain channels on upc media box?
I have locked channel 131(angels) several times but it only stays locked for about 15 mins.
I have 3 small kids so this is not acceptable.

    ps
I know you can set the age limit to cover all channels.

The EPG is lying then .. the program after 9pm advertises itself as "The Pad - Live interactive psychic show, speak to our psychics now!". Unless they're psychic call-girls :D

What objection; the fact that it exists or the fact that its channel 131 on the EPG? Surely its not that hard just to lock it and ignore it if it bothers you?

    both

its not the kind of channel i would expect to see on cable in the first place.
and if they must have it why in the 100s it should be in the 800s
if i wanted these kind of channels i would have fta or sky not cable

i shouldnt have to lock it and ignore it. its crap and shouldn't be there

I've seen this channel - I thought it was about nurses and it's just one of those chat line (2.50 a minute call number) to talk to the girls. A lot of channels that go off at a certain time carry the same type of show.

I was getting my hopes up there. Its just the wee lassie twiddling with her bra that wants us drunken insomniacs to ring her on her partyline @ €250 a second.;)

Pay-per-view is not the model for this type of, er, programming. Essentially its one continuous informercial and for you to ring up to avail of their, er, service, you need to see the, er, advert!

There are many channels we might personally not like. I for one would question the usefulness of Fashion TV or Sky Real Lives. But they are part of the package. Pay-TV has never worked on an a-la-carte basis (except the very early days of ONdigital, and they abandoned that model pretty sharp). You take the package and you take all the channels that come with the package.

As for being for adults only, after the 9pm watershed you must watch with the expectiation of seeing adult content on any channel. Besides, its hardly Playboy TV.

+1, I seen worse on the Mid-Week movie on RTE1.

I think they are banning it or increasing regulation of it on German Satellite TV. Or something.

The Germans are saying that they have to be encrypted. From next year I think.

    UPC is hardly FTA :-)

    PIN time :)

There's plenty of equally "offensive" stuff on mainstream TV e.g. BBC, RTE, Channel 4 etc after the watershed.

Use the PIN Lock feature, it should work. If it's not locking the channel out, call 1908 and ask for tech support.

Who gives a flying fook. Don't watch the fecking thing. People love to complain about the most ridiculous and trivial of things.

Two points reallys. UPC or angels TV should be listing valid EPG data for this channel, including rating information. As a customer I'd expect the EPG data to be as accruate as possible. In todays marketplace, I consisder the EPG part of the service I am paying for in addition to the channels.
I'd exect the programme which broadcasts from 9pm to be rated as 18. Currently it isn't. UPC should provide a better way to block content from users based on the age rating of the content. I belive Sky does this well. Why can't UPC?

I have to disagree with this bit I have Sky and there must be 50 of those type channels Babestation, Lucky Star , Asian babes etc etc and they are on all day long 24/7 and you dont need a pin to get into them , but what I would say is to find them you would have to go through a multitude of channels 1st ( or just go straight into the adult part on the EPG ) but for some kid just flicking through the channels I agree it would be harder for him to find babestation then it would angels TV

On UPC boxes, press Menu, Settings --> PIN Settings --> Parental Control allows you to block by rating (these appear to be the IFCO ratings rather than the RTÉ style rating). Unfortunately this depends on the listings data provider providing a rating for a programme, which doesn't appear to be the case in most cases. It's up to the channel providers to provide these ratings - UPC staff can't be expected to view every programme that's broadcast on its network in advance and rate them!
