In some Colleges I see a requirement such as:
"The entry requirements are a minimun of 4 Level 5 FETAC modules with distinction."

What are these Level 5 modules?

that depends entirely on your fetac course. They're the modules by which you study for your fetac, you need a total of 8 to have a full cert. You can, however, study more then 8.

FETAC = Further Education Training Awards Council
    Learners page: http://www.fetac.ie/fetac/learners/learners.htm

Each FETAC module @ Level 5 is equivalent to one subect at Higher Leaving Certificate standard on the National Framework of Qualifications. You need to achieve 8 credits (generally 8 modules) to complete a Full Award. Full Awards are offered in a huge range of subject areas: i.e. Business Studies; Childcare, Horticulture; Healthcare; Nursing Studies etc. All Full Awards include - Communications & Work Experience. If you are considering applying for courses at 3rd level I would trying to access some modules @ FETAC Level 5in the subject area that you are considering studying.

Modules can be accessed as part of a full award or as stand alone units. Check out the free Adult Guidance Service in your local Vocational Educational Committee (VEC) for further information with regard to same.

    Cheers

What is a distinction in any module at Fetac level 5 relative to the Leaving Cert Higher Level? if you know

Check out the following FETAC Resource with regard to progression from FETAC Levels 5 and 6: http://www.fetac.ie/fetac/documents/Prog_HEC_2010.pdf

On page 4 it notes that:

    A Distinction = 50 points
    A Merit = 35 points
    A pass = 20 points

8 modules x Distinction = 400 points (maximum you can achieve)

In order to apply to some colleges you will need to have presented all 8 modules in one assessment period. Others allow you to build credits over a number of assessment periods. Make sure that you are aware of the entry requirements in respect of the course that you wish to apply for.

    Cheers
