FETAC modules, what are they?

that depends entirely on your fetac course. They're the modules by which you study for your fetac, you need a total of 8 to have a full cert. You can, however, study more then 8.

Each FETAC module @ Level 5 is equivalent to one subect at Higher Leaving Certificate standard on the National Framework of Qualifications. You need to achieve 8 credits (generally 8 modules) to complete a Full Award. Full Awards are offered in a huge range of subject areas: i.e. Business Studies; Childcare, Horticulture; Healthcare; Nursing Studies etc. All Full Awards include - Communications & Work Experience. If you are considering applying for courses at 3rd level I would trying to access some modules @ FETAC Level 5in the subject area that you are considering studying.

Modules can be accessed as part of a full award or as stand alone units. Check out the free Adult Guidance Service in your local Vocational Educational Committee (VEC) for further information with regard to same.

On page 4 it notes that:

A Distinction = 50 points
A Merit = 35 points
A pass = 20 points

8 modules x Distinction = 400 points (maximum you can achieve)

In order to apply to some colleges you will need to have presented all 8 modules in one assessment period. Others allow you to build credits over a number of assessment periods. Make sure that you are aware of the entry requirements in respect of the course that you wish to apply for.
