I have been looking at wedding venues for 2012 and am just wondering would anyone have experience of weddings at Breaffy House or The Radisson in Athlone?
Having visited them both I do like both locations but am very unsure. I love the outside area in Breaffy but not so sure on bar area/food. I love the bar area/function room in Radisson but know they do not host too many weddings.
    I would really appreciate any negative/positive comments.:P

    Hi Cruty,

I visited the Raddison when hunting for wedding venues earlier this summer. The Raddison is lovely, was at a function in there last year and the food was great. My parents were at a wedding there 2 years ago and said it was very good.

It's in a good location, the honeymoon suites were a nice size and the view from the decking is great on a nice day. Their more expensive wedding package seem to be much better value than the cheaper one as it included your afters food and much more.

Everything was shaping up well on our visit until we inquired about bar extensions ....

Oh was there a problem with bar extension??
I got that in the package too, think she said it was 2.30 and then the residents bar. That would be an important issue at my wedding!!

The bar extension is something you can usually negotiate on though - if you told them that you were interested but that was holding you back I'm sure you could come to some arrangement

I tried to negotiate with them, other hotels we were looking at had the bar extension included in the overall price and one hotel wasn't even going to charge us for corkage! I said this to the Raddison and they said well that's the price and there's nothing we can do about that...so we didn't book them and told the girl that that was the reason why we wouldn't book them, hey maybe they didn't need the business that much!

But do negotiate with them, they wouldn't budge for us but might for others.

I think it was the year membership in their gym that I said I didn't want and asked for bar extention instead. I was told it was ok at the time but I do think I need to double check!
