180W motor running on batteries..how long will they last?

    I'm getting an 12V 180W outboard motor and plan to run it off 2x 12V 7Ah batteries (in parallel).

    Have I got my calculations right in how long the batteries will last?

    The motor on full power will draw 15A, so 14/15 * 60 = 56min

    12v 14ah will give you 168 watt/hrs

    that'll be 168/180*60 mins = 56minutes

    afair someone here mentioned that the SLA are not suitable for deep-discharge

    what battery you got in mind?

    just got my hands on 4x YUASA NP12-12 (12V 12Ah) batteries.

    I'd use 2 batteries at a time and keep the other 2 spare if needed. That increases my watt/hrs up to 288.

    what do you mean by deep discharge?

    it was mentioned here recently that they weren't suitable for deep cycling /discharge

    dunno much myself-there's a few graphs there

    thanks for the info...i'll give them a shot and see how long they last. they were free so not out of pocket if i have to chuck them

    They'd only be charged/used about 8-10 times a year so I guess they'll last a bit, I hope (100% DOD says I should get about 180 cycles out of them)

    I noticed on the side of the batteries that it has written 'Designed for Standby Use' and that is basically what they have been used for, but if I get a bit of use out of them for free, I'll be happy enough.

    Any suggestions for battery types used for deep cycling? links? what types are best for this type of use?

    no idea-would be interested to know

    bought some battery quads a few years back- they came with the 12v SLA's??

    but they were nothing but trouble anyhow
