Yes, they are on the STB and the ordinary Analogue service. I have a feeling though that NTL are broadcasting a different version of BBC2(at least once anyway) than their analogue service. I was horrified on the day the new series of The Office started to switch to BBC2 only to be greeted by some chat show I'd never seen before. This was on the STB. When I turned to the analogue version though, there was David Brent in all his glory. Panic over

Thanks LFC, The Digital version of BBC2 NI is slightly different from the analogue one. They learned their lesson after 1 week of replacing "the office" with some local talk show, so we got to see the rest of the series.

If they had their networks all upgraded to digital there wouldn't be multiroom viewing. Analog MMDS will be first to go.

Multiroom might stay longer for basic analog pack. But Chorus and NTL digital services is Just like Sky or Freeview, Multiroom, if you all watch the same channel.

A friend of mine has "mulitroom" equvialent of Family Pack at 60 Euro a month. At Current Sky prices you could have two Digiboxes for that and when "mirror" sub comes in, three digiboxes.

Different channels in different rooms without a separate set-top box for each TV is reaching its sellby date.

In UK they seem serious about getting rid of Analog, which means even for Off Air, you will need multiple Set-top boxes or TVs with "digital" tuners instead of analog ones (Actually all digital systems: Sat, Cable, DTT, MMDS use an analog tuner followed by a DSP chip which is like multiple modems (QAM decoder), followed by demultiplex/error correction then MPEG2 decoder).

I was in Portlaoise shopping centre today and there was a sky tv stand and the woman asked me would I be interested in sky. I couldnt resist pretending that I hadnt got it and asked if UTV and C4 would be on soon. Her Reply "Oh yes they are testing at the moment so should be on very soon". Gee I havent seen any news of tests! Anybody out there or is it another pack of lies from sky (surely not);)
    gonk

They had a SKy Stand in the canteen in work yesterday and I asked the same question. Firstly I was told that UTV was already on 103. I disputed this and was told that it is there and I should just keep searching through all the channels until I found it!?!?!?!
Again I disputed this and was told that they would be on by Christmas. Strangely I don't believe this....

On another subject, I asked about SKY+ and second subscriptions and was told that they would be here in February.

Is there not already a thread open on this whole subject and can it be merged, Moderator?

You .T.V is on 229.so if you call sky looking for UTV they will say it is already there ,and in this case they are not spoofing.

A friend of mine just got sky... he was assured by the reputable(!) installer that UTV and C4 would be on Sky in January with a huge promotional campaign. Similarly, the mirror subscription would be here at the same time for about €10 a month.

    I'm not sure, but if it's true I'm a V. happy chap!!!!

    Anyone else hear this????????????????

Agghhh, this has being going on for years! Rumours, rumours, rumours...! I'm just so tired of hearing about C4 and UTV "coming soon".

This is so old news! A film crew from Sky's backchat programme (the old one with the guy from "The Word") actually came to my work place here in Dublin to film my question for them for channel 999 (which was the customer channel at the time)...

    Q. Why can't Irish subscribers get the UK channels such as UTV, C4?

At the time it was filmed (Novemeber 2000) I was told that it was looking likely that it would happen in the very near future.

And this was 2 years ago, yes 2 years! (Eventhough they filmed me, Sky never actually screened my question!).

Now, can we give it a rest please! I'm tired.... :)

i would not hold my breath waiting for utv c4 to come onto sky it looks as if carlton and granada are too mean to pay for the irish rights to certain event s (champions league etc) and figure that the return ffrom the extra subs money they would receive would not outweigh the cost of adding utv to the sky line up ( i know utv is seperate from granada) but dont forget as long as granada are shareholders in tv3 they will be in no rush to allow utv on to compete and take advertsing away from them.

Isn't it a shame that anyone can start a thread with Channel 4 or UTV/ITV in the title without so much as a question mark, and get everyone on the board slavering with anticipation ?

I've been reading this forum for a few years now and the amount of misinformation that's casually posted has been amazing.

Last October we had the promises of UTV/Channel 4 on the Irish sub and widescreen Sky One/News, neither of which came to pass.

I know we all hear different rumours from time to time, but they should be posted as such (rumours !) and not falsely raise people's hopes without any real grounds.

Meanwhile I may go and start a thread titled "UTV/Channel 4 in March" and watch the replies mount up.

(And for all we know at the moment, I may just be right !)

And you are right Charles, its pure nonsense. Only an offical press release from Sky and Channel 4 & UTV will I sit up and take notice.

I kept this thread seperate til now, just_in_case, a fresh thread...... but now......

    Thread merged.

Yeah somebody should start a campaign to stop this happening.

To be honest, the campaign thread has probably had it's day as well. It was a nice idea at the time, but people get tired pretty quickly of getting the same old replies from Sky and the BBC time after time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,732 ✭✭✭✭DMC

As much as it pains me, I agree Charles.... Time to unstick the 2nd most viewed thread on boards.... it was number 1 until the UTVip thread on IrelandOffline passed it out.... Irony of Ironies.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,097 ✭✭✭ShaneOC

Maybe we should try and combine the two. I believe that a UTVip representative actually came on board and was able to answer peoples queries. It is a pity that the same thing did not happen with the campaign thread.

I still believe that well written letters do get a response. The more of them that are sent the better. It may not do any good, but it will not hurt.

I would leave the sticky as it probably prevents loads of threads being opened asking about the channels that we are missing.

What ever happened to your friend in Montrose- What is she saying now??

Hitler had plans to invade Britain.
Al Gore had plans for the White House.
What do they say about the best laid plans?
Why wern't UTV and Channel 4 switched on?
The people concerned just changed their minds.
    What can I say?
24 hours is a long time in broadcasting.

Actually, if they were talking about it in Montrose, it was never going to happen....
In that TV3/Granada must have been talking about it aswell to Sky and throwing spanners in the works.

Hi I noticed today while looking at ch4 active BB game that they have the price of a call for the Republic of Ireland. Could this be an indication that Ch4 is planning to launch on the Irish EPG?Because CH4 active is not availabel on E4 on the Irish EPG at present or it was not last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭trekster

Thats because the BB game is also available through sky active games and has been since the irish games service launched. so not a sign

The new SKY magazine (Irish edition) says that American Pop Idol is going to be on ITV2 in January......Does this mean that we are getting ITV2 in Ireland ?....is this progress ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 29,807 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

That'd be nice (if it arrived with the rest of em :)) but more likely it's just something that appeared in the UK mag and made it into ours as well - similarly to how the "Irish" editions of the UK papers still contain loads of UK ads and offers - still, I'd be happy to be wrong on this one :)

    Merry Xmas all....

And if you go page 38 of this months magazine, they mention UTV and I thought that was purged on their print programme as a swear word:rolleyes:

Personally, I am just lost for words on the whole issue?...
IMHO even UTV and CH4 are the real "viewer" losers which can not help their - essential - advertising revenue incomes - or ratings, IDIOTS!.

As UTVip have been so open and straight in their dealings with the Republic customers on Boards.ie, could some of their subscribers for Internet services quiz them on what their TV cousins are doing on this?

Folks, read back a few pages.... Its down to internal ITV politics!

UTV has not appeared on Sky in the ROI, as TV3 has a lot of UTV's networked programming from ITV and TV3 is owned by Granada, the biggest shareholder in ITV. If UTV was on Sky down here, revenue would be down for TV3, and Granada cant be having any of that!
