have pencilled in to play the Lord Mayor's several years but when it comes around I am always tight for days off work so no-go for me again. Played Laytown JS yesterday...as calm as you will ever get it, meant I got point one back instead of .2! some fella from Newlands won it with a pair of 73's

Think that was won by a young lad off 13 who had a 76 gross. 80 gross got 4th.

Haven't played Westmanstown in 3/4 months but I can tell you Ashbourne is in super condition at the moment.

Thanks for that. I knew I wasn't in the running, but wasn't too far away.

The interesting thing about the Fota Open week is that it had been advertised at €50 pp for all competitions 2 weeks previously. Obviously they didn't get many takers & reduced the prices to €35!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭Sir Shankalot

Fota JS Cup is €50 and only 18 holes, handicap 5 to 9 - have not played it but not great value, if it was 36 i'd make the trip on the saturday perhaps

Well having not played it how do qualify yourself to say if it's value or not

And if you did travel on sat you'd be there on the wrong day

So probably a good idea to stay away alright

You could play the fourball this Wednesday or the singles on Thursday if you like for €35
But don't come a day early it's ladies day !!

I'd hazard a guess he would be staying over the night before. €50 for a Junior Scratch is excessive whatever the course or it's condition:eek:. There is better value elsewhere. Not trying to be controversial , it's just my opinion. (for what that's worth)

Hope this isnt off thread but, a few weeks back I played a JSC with two guys who shared a buggy. During the round the asked each other what club they just played and told each other what club they played on the par threes.
I have since seen the two play in another JSC and am sorry now I didnt speak up.
But other than the coaching each other, are two players allowed share a buggy in a singles competiton? I thought they couldn't.
I cant play any of the remaining JSC's so keep a look out for them!

not sure bout the buggy's,i'm sure it differs from comp to comp, sorry but i don't think there's an excuse for you not speaking up about it

Pretty sure a buggy can only be used with a medical cert.

And yes you most certainly should have reported them.

played it this week, its a championship course in pristine condition everything is manicured to tip top shape at the moment
if you want to test yourself on a great course €50 is well worth at present or as I said €35 this wed and thurs , it's just my opinion. (for what that's worth)

Because I have threshold for what is value that is why - I am pretty sure I would have heard if it was Augusta national or not by now and €50 for a JS is lumpy in my opinion. And I would have travelled down to Cork on Saturday if playing the next day smart ass - glad I stayed away if you are representative of who was playing

yeah well it looks likes you're the only one that doesn't know how good the course is,it's decent value JSC or not.I think you want them to incorporate you're travel expences into the price,do you?Woodenbridge charged €35,Mount Wolseley was €35 also(i think),both are not even in the same league

yes, i am the only one who doesn't know how good the course is - i must be the only person in Ireland who has not played it as well. And believe it or not, travel expenses do factor into my thinking as to whether a trip/event is good value to me personally...from my point of view....in my opinion...which I am perfectly entitled to have

Played Woodenbridge yesterday and although didn't play very well the course was in excellent condition, greens were top class.

Anyone know if that 144 won it?

Woodenbridge and Mount Wolseley. Both overpriced too. Rosslare was €20 for 36 holes, Enniscorthy €20, Baltray €25 (best course I've ever played) to name a few. I'm with Lancelot on €50 being excessive for an 18 hole JS. However, if the golf clubs that charge €50 get the required attendance it is the correct price, as the golf clubs concerned are just trying to survive/prosper.

That's my point also, I played Laytown & Bettystown last week, 36 holes 25 quid...JS Cups were always great value 36 hole events, in recent years the trend has been towards 18 holes. From a competitive standpoint 36 holes strokes will generally require sustained and good quality golf. btw, I don't hit dozens of balls off the hosel to be called Lancelot!!:)
