Disable Woman 'starved after mother died'

Poor daughter, what a horrible way to go.

    http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=378203&version=1&template_id=38&parent_id=20
A disabled woman may have starved to death in her home after her mother, who cared for her full time, died suddenly. The 56-year-old woman and her daughter, aged 29, were found dead on Saturday after concerns were raised about their welfare.

Police confirmed ay that a post mortem had not found any evidence the pair had been attacked and that the deaths were not suspicious. Hertfordshire police said further tests were being carried out to establish how they died.

The mother was named locally as Stephanie Wolf. There is speculation she died suddenly, leaving her paralysed daughter unable to care for herself.

Police are also investigating the possibility she may have killed her daughter before taking her own life. The bodies were discovered at an address in Wheathampstead.

Neighbour Angela Goodwin said: “They must have lived here for around 15 years. The mother used to say hello occasionally but I didn’t know their names.”

It is believed the bodies may have lain undiscovered in the three-bedroom property for a number of weeks and had partially decomposed.

The alarm was raised by a man delivering leaflets who noticed flies swarming around the letterbox. There were reports that Wolf had become increasingly worn down by the burden of caring for her daughter.

One neighbour said she had become more reclusive and “very depressed” for the past year.

It was also claimed that three years ago, Wolf put a large sign on the roof of the bungalow reading “help”.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said investigators were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Hertfordshire county council yesterday said the mother had refused the help of social workers. But a source said social services still had a duty to care for families who needed help, even if they refused it.

As horrible as the joke may be, I still smiled at it.

On a serious note, it is a tragedy that the daughter may have been killed by her mother, or starved to death. It is a terrible way to go.

One of the worst ways to die, and a c*ntish comment to make about it. Can only imagine the fear, the horror of slowly dying from starvation.

This is a horrific tragedy. Can we just leave it there and close the thread?

People make jokes here everyday of the week, all year round, about tragedies and mishaps of all kinds. Why does this one suddenly provoke outrage where others are just accepted?

It's the fact that an elderly woman died, her disabled daughter died most likely of starvation and their bodies rotted alone in a house for weeks and weeks.
That's why his 'joke' is more offensive than usual...to me anyways.

    A bit fcukin dumb alright.

Thats the way of AH isn't it? Someone posts a tragic story & everyone speeds in to post the cruelest so-called pun/piss-take.

I'l poke fun at anything but oh cripes thats a bad oul story. A bit too sad, even for me.

There is a forum specifally for jokes like that! It's not something I would take offence to but it crossed the line by a wide mark.

To be honest "After hours" is the last place I would post that story.
If you throw a dog a bone, don't be surprised if you get nipped.
I'd even go so far as to say that many of these sad stories are posted up as offerings to the humour gods of afterhours, with the original posters then sitting back to bask in the quips.

People seem to become "elderly" earlier and earlier now!

I don't think the joke was particularly funny, but I'll defend to the death mink_man's right to say it.

I'm sick of this old line being trotted out as if to try to justify the behaviour. Just because its After Hours does that mean people lose any modicum of decency they have? If someone handed him a newspaper and said... read that article, you can bet that poster would not have responded "she should have eaten her legs". Its the pseudo-anonymity that boards.ie gives that allows people to be cunts

If you wouldn't write it on facebook where people can see your real name, then you shouldn't write it on boards.

I'd say the daughter died of dehydration. Starvation takes months, dehydration can be 3 days to 1 week. Terrible, God bless them.

I've put awful stuff on Facebook I wouldn't put here tbh, more likely that people who don't want to see it will already have me on ignore. :pac:
Also on a particular site I'm on I was expecting a lot of jokes about this and yet there were none that I've noticed, and they've joked about a lot worse.

I think we should find out where mink_man lives and eat his legs. That'll teach him!

If he thought he was around like-minded individuals then he probably would have......... similar to the post on boards.

    I think there's a group for that.
