How much does it cost to run a s/f boiler stove?

I am thinking of installing a boiler stove in the sitting room that will heat the room, radiators and water. Does anyone have any advice on the charnwood Island IIIB stove? We will be running the boiler stove in combination (though not at the same time!) as our gas central heating on a recommendation from a plumber. Our gas bills at the mo. are about 2,500 per year (calor gas, rip off!!) and I was just wondering what, on average, it would cost to buy wood for a 16-18 kw stove for the year. The house is about 1800 sq. feet. I'm hoping it would be cheaper that the gas!

Haven't a clue what its going to cost you but planning on doing something similar, is your plumber doing the installation? if he is, will you PM me his number as some of the quotes i'm getting are outrageous. I think there's a lot of tradesmen out there think it's still 2006.

Hi Andrew33. The plumber is coming out this evening to give us a quote so will post it up then along with what he says he need to do. Do you mind me asking what kind of prices you were being quoted?
