Connolly was a Republican. He fought with the IRA in 1916 which brought us independence.

Connolly was a communist, and led the Irish Citizen Army, not the Irish Volunteers. The latter was renamed the IRA long after 1916. Nor did the Easter Rising bring "us" independence, it was the later war of 1919-21.

My Uncle says that when he was in college every pub in Galway played the national anthem at the end of the night. Back then people were respectful of our country and politicians. Now thanks to the liberal agenda of the Dublin media and the pinko lefties no one respects our dead heroes. In tough times where we all need to stick together and tighten our belts a little bit of nationalism would help.

Trolling, surely, please tell me this is a joke...

If anyone fails to respect our dead heroes, it's because a corrupt oligarchy have wrapped themselves in the national flag for the better part of a century now. Don't blame the 'pinko lefties' or 'the liberal agenda of the Dublin media' for the fact that nationalist gestures aren't in vogue. After all, 'putting on the green jersey' helped get us where we are today...

Personally, I think standing to the national anthem means very little. Just because you stand for a minute doesn't make you a better person, and not standing doesn't make you any less respectful towards your country.
I'm very proud to be Irish, I've learnt our history, I've learnt the anthem, and I speak Irish better than most people because I work at it. However, at the end of a night I honestly couldn't be arsed standing! I think it should be saved for matches and that. People should express their pride and respect in their own way (as I do)! It should not be forced on them!

No, it's a fake account. Check his post history, it's obvious. Just ignore him.

If anything we are not drinking enough. My uncle says he will have to sell one of his pubs as it's losing money. The Vintners are having a very difficult time at the moment.

    they see me trollin'...

It's just the city Labour voting types that don't and moan and whine about no jobs. Connolly and Pearse didn't give their lives so that socialist could whinge and sit on their arse.

Connolly was a socialist. Labour in Irish history?

Anything FF do is for the good of the country. We have to take some painful medicine but it will help us recover in the long-term. A bit of reading up on our patriots might put things in context for the whingers and spongers today. My great grandfather was shot while cutting turf by the black and tans.

If James Connolly, Padhraic Pearse or Michael Collins were alive today, who do you think they would shoot first?

Half a million euro on travel and hotel expenses, while children have to bring toilet paper to school with themselves. John O'Donoghue wouldn't last two seconds, anymore than the rest of the gutless treachorous filth that constitutes the Fianna Fail party.

Aah, bit harsh mate. It's not Le Marsellaise but it'd kick the **** out of Ireland's Call any day.

Stop encouraging him, like dapto1 said look at his post history and you'll see he's just trolling/taking the p1ss. Ignore.

Here's an example of his wisdom on another thread.

at the end of the day one of the great things about this wee economic downturn we're having is the return of many women to the home. i know a few women and to be honest they're not made out for the 9-5 mallarky. kids turn out better if the mother is there in the kitchen having the house nice and tidy and a nice home baked meal when they come home from school. Dev would have been rolling in his grave to see the carryon of irish lassies during the celtic tiger. hopefully a bit of normalcy is returning.

the only people as far as i can remember sang the national athem at the end of the night was ballad groups cause they nearly all sang rebel songs,it was the way to bow out at the end of a gig

Please, please tell me this is some bad attempt at trolling.

Because I really hate to think that there are some deluded people that think that problems would all disappear if we played the nation anthem at the end of a night in pubs and clubs.

And repeatedly mentioning FF, Vintners and "your uncle" the bar owner, methinks he doth try too hard.

Away with you, shoo shoo, troll.

He's starting a breakaway party, Fianna Troll, which guarantees to be ten times worse than FF itself.

That is unpatronic and verging on sedition. Post reported.
I know better than to feed the troll generally, but to that, I will merely quote Mark Twain:
Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it.
It is possible to be patriotic to your country while still not supporting the sitting elected officials. Especially when they have been the architects of the country's current state, insofar as one group can be labelled as such. Perhaps you should take note of the distinction between the entities.

Oh, and as to playing the anthem at the end of the night in licensed premises? I think it makes a mockery of the song and what it stands for, and I am damned glad that it seems to be a dying practice. The last thing it should be used for is helping to shovel the drunks out at the end of the night, when many of them are actually too bombed to stand for it even if they wanted to!

some pubs still do, but not the cool ones. depends on who is playing. sometimes played in Taafes and monroes.

I absolutely hate that the anthem gets played at the end of the night. Its embrassing in a niteclub when everyone is falling & puking all over the place. & then you get the thick f**kers who get hot & bothered if your not standing to attention.

true most Irish people do not even know the lyrics. in keeping with our paddywhack image we should change it to molly malone or irelands call

If there was ever a place where you should be a ardent FF supporter, AH is not it...

FF are clearly a bunch of honest hard working politicians.
    Especially this guy:
