Bars and clubs need to stand playing Amhrán na bhFiann at end of night

My Uncle says that when he was in college every pub in Galway played the national anthem at the end of the night. Back then people were respectful of our country and politicians. Now thanks to the liberal agenda of the Dublin media and the pinko lefties no one respects our dead heroes. In tough times where we all need to stick together and tighten our belts a little bit of nationalism would help.

They respect our dead heroes in the rest of Connaught. It's just the city Labour voting types that don't and moan and whine about no jobs. Connolly and Pearse didn't give their lives so that socialist could whinge and sit on their arse.

ok so you might be trolling nuig fianna fail but you ask about respect the dead heroes of our nation. How about your crew showing a bit of respect for the living heroes of this nation, the general public who are going to have to pay our way out of a mess that was multiplied by the incompetence of your fellow FF. As for the original post this is the 21st century and the ballroom of romance is dead and gone so best you got back to reading brainwashing propaganda.

Anything FF do is for the good of the country. We have to take some painful medicine but it will help us recover in the long-term. A bit of reading up on our patriots might put things in context for the whingers and spongers today. My great grandfather was shot while cutting turf by the black and tans.

If anything we are not drinking enough. My uncle says he will have to sell one of his pubs as it's losing money. The Vintners are having a very difficult time at the moment.

Is a bunch of drunks struggling to stand up, slurring out the words to the national anthem really showing 'respect'?

I raise you The Specials - Ghost Town as played on Fr Ted..............:pac:
    ****, can't find a link.................
Dedicated to out modern day FF heros who gave us Ghost Banks, Ghost Estates, and last but not least, forced emigration. Perfect song as a new Anthem for the naton.

Edit, the original video is quite suitable...........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,780 ✭✭✭sentient_6

I absolutely hate that the anthem gets played at the end of the night. Its embrassing in a niteclub when everyone is falling & puking all over the place. & then you get the thick f**kers who get hot & bothered if your not standing to attention.

Pffft....just cos nobody agrees with you,it's hardly bullying, I assume by your username you are supporting a party who are supported by a minotity, surprised you are not used to it at this stage.

As for the dead heroes, I wonder did they think future generations would be paying for ghost estates built on the bogs where they died? FF would have been better off worrying about the state of the nation. National anthem in Galway pubs, don't see the point.

/Rant over, it was just too tempting not to!

    I never stand for it.

I don't believe in nationalism and I'm not going to stand for a song that celebrates standing around in a field waiting to shoot somebody.

    Not my cup of tea.

I don't give a hoot about patriotism, I just happened to be born here. I don't salute any flag and I don't stand for a song. Unless it is a crackin choon which Amhrán Na Bhfiann is not.

Connolly and Pearse didn't give their lives so that socialist could whinge and sit on their arse.

This reeks of nationalism - not even using lies, just your own plain confusion to further some ignorant hatred of anything different...

James Connolly (5 Hune 1868 - 12 May 1916) was an Irish socialist leader.
He was born in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh, Scotland, to Irish immigrant parents.
He left school for working life at the age of 11,
but became one of the leading Marxist theorists of his day. link

You might want to @ least read the wikipedia link I gave you, nevermind an actual history book on the topic...

    Here I'll save you the trouble of doing something that might grate against your obvious ideological bias;

"His legacy in Ireland is mainly due to his contribution to the republican cause and his Marxism has been largely overlooked by mainstream histories (although his legacy as a socialist has been claimed by the Communist Party of Ireland, Connolly Youth Movement, éirígí, the IRSP, the Labour Party, Sinn Féin, the Socialist Party, the Socialist Workers Party, the Workers' Party, the Scottish Socialist Party and a variety of other left-wing and left-republican groups). However, despite claims to the contrary, Connolly's writings show him to be first and foremost a Marxist thinker."

    (find the source...).
