    1. As a result of British occupation, English is now the most widely spoken language in this country. This comes in handy because English is now basically the default world language and a lot of companies choose Ireland as a European base because of this.

    2. Because we were oppressed ourselves we didnt get a chance to oppress other people so we are free of colonial guilt.

    3. A lot of great music and art was made about said oppression.

    4. A lot of Irish people immigrated and reproduced like crazy thus increasing our global influence.

    6. African Americans do not have a monopoly on their ancestors being slaves.

In other news, I'd do Sarah Polley.
    TV3 now.

The best thing about being oppressed are the people who go on about being oppressed. Those silly biscuits do give me a chuckle.

It leads to a very interesting take on historical "education" in irish schools.

Being oppressed has given the Irish plenty to talk about on message boards and has been the raw materials for countless ballads and "rebel songs" thus offering gainful employment to hundreds who otherwise would only be singing in the bath. Its all win win as far as I can see.

Apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the English ever done for us?

Edit: This post was was quite clearly a piss take in reference to the film "The Life of Brian", I thought this would be obvious but seemingly not...

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
