i had to get braces when i was 17 and i felt the same worries at first, but a few months later i got a total hottie of a boyfriend, so they are not unattractive or offputting to men, BUT over time this hottie was actually a prick so it just reinforces the fact that whats inside counts more and anyone with an ounce of sense will know that, so don't be worrying either way! :-)

Tbh i think they look nice on a lot of girls. I've met some really nice girls out and about that had braces and were stunning! It really wouldn't make a difference to me if a girl had braces or not :) and I'm a teenage guy btw

I met a girl tonight. She was about 21. She had braces and by god I'd do anything be with her. Braces don't change a thing believe me.

Ok im 19 and I have to wear braces for 2 years :(:(
I'm actually devastated...The ortho is insisting on metal and theyre going to be really conspicuous...I know people will say 'any guy worth knowing wont care' but in fairness, braces would put me right off a guy!!
Like im young enough for the majority of guys to still be immature, never mind deal with braces and i'm going to have them til im 21!!! :(
I cant see myself finding anyone who'll have me in the next 2 years :(

I would imagine the reason the orthodontist is insisting on metal is because they are stronger, can take more pressure, and yield quicker results - or that's how mine explained it to me, he actively discouraged me from going for the more expensive options that I was prepared to pay for due to the increase in treatment time required. If it's going to be 2 years with the metal brackets, it could have been a lot longer with the less visible options, which ultimately means longer with the teeth you were unhappy with in the first place.

Head up, get on with it, and don't allow something so trivial (and temporary!) to drag you down.

OP braces are great magnets :D yes bad joke, as has been said before alot of people find them cute, i was worried myself when i got them and i was 17, ladies liked them, confidance went up, so yeah don't be worried :D, tightening them hurts though.

i got braces when i was 18 and it wasnt until i was 22 when i got them off

the suffering for those few quick years was well worth it and now loads of people comment on my teeth

    best thing i ever did

    dont worry about it

I had braces from the age of 14 to the age of 15. I cried for a full 24 hours after having them fixed as I felt so ugly and I felt that no boy would want to kiss me.

Anyway, I got used to them after a few days and I have to say that within a week of getting used to them (i.e. regaining some confidence) boys started showing interest in me again and I had no problem during that year and in fact ended up having the 'cool guy' from the boys' school as my little boyfriend!!

My teeth were also so lovely too when the braces came off so it was all a means to an end with visible, positive results.

I wouldn't worry about it. My only concern for you is that fact that braces would put you off someone - this might be the best thing that happens to you and perhaps you will be a little less judgemental of prospective mates in future.

    Best of luck!
