Converting MOD files to play on Final Cut Express?

I have a JVC Everio Camcorder. Its video file format is MOD. I know that it doesnt work with Final Cut Express so does anyone know how I can convert it to a format accepted by Final Cut Express?

Ive got it to work before by just changing the file extension from MOD to MPG... It hasnt worked all the time however. Short of that you might have to convert the MOD
