Great progress Cabaal. You'd beat me in a 5k now. I'm slowly learning to accept that I've reached my peak :p
Best of luck with the HM training.

Don't feel so bad and don't count yourself out just yet.

    I swore I'd never break 6:00km as an average for a 5km, now I'm aiming for 5:00/km :D
Its not my ultimate goal, I'm not too pushed about speed now I just want to get the head down and put in the miles to get myself capable of doing the HM.

    July 17th Cycle:
    Distance: 42.00km
    Time: 1 hour 40min

    July 18th Run:
    Distance: 8.02km
    Time: 47min 20sec
    Pace: 5:54/km

Went for the cycle far too late on Saturday evening which meant I really felt it the next morning when I did my 8km run...lesson learned on that one

    Strength and stretch day today....

    July 20th Run:
    Distance: 5.66km
    Time: 32min 50sec
    Pace: 5:48/km

Very like crap during this run, didn't get into it and felt awful sluggish

    July 22nd Run:
    Distance: 8.08km
    Time: 46min 13sec
    Pace: 5:43/km

Felt good throughout the run, did abit extra as I didn't get the chance to do a 2mile run or cycle on the 22nd due to time restrictions and really really crap weather.

Rest day today then a cycle Saturday and another 8km on Sunday :)

    July 24th Run:
    Distance: 10.02km
    Time: 57min 20sec
    Pace: 5:43/km

My fastest 10km run to date, infact its actually 6min faster the my previous fastest 10km run! :D

    Finally I've done a sub 60min 10km,

    July 25th Cycle:
    Distance: 34.26km
    Time: 01:41:46

    July 27th Run:
    Distance: 6.49km
    Time: 36min 16sec
    Pace: 5:35/km

According to the training plan I have a 5km race in two weeks, really interested to see what time I can do a 5km in during that :)

I'm guessing perhaps about 25min with luck :D

I've really felt since I began the training plan that I'm making progress, going further distances is getting easier, have sped up and feeling better then before :)

Have you a specific race in mind Cabaal? You're flying now.

Yep, Dublin Half-Marathon on the 18th September,

I started all this with the aim of running a Marathon, I don't think I'm able for that just yet so half will do this year and I can do the full Marathon next year :)

My aim is to do the Half-Marathon in ideally under 2hours, however I'll settle for 2hours 15min or lower

My wife says I have toned up a fair bit, less love handles etc, I've found lots of clothes fit better so I'd tend to agree.
On the scales I've lost only about half a stone though.

Sure muscle weights more then fat and all that

    Hi Cabaal

You started C25k same time as me. You're flying it. I moved up to 10k for June. Just back from holidays so I'm starting the HH Half Marathon Plan next week. Interesting reading through your thread. Your improvement on the 5k times are unbelievable. Well done!

    July 29th Run:
    Distance: 6.46km
    Time: 36min 07sec
    Pace: 5:35/km

Run went well, I feel like I'm really getting into keepin below the 6:00/km mark very easily these days :)

I have a 5km race as part of the plan for next Saturday I'm pretty sure I can comfortably manage a 25min 5km at this stage which a few short weeks ago I would have thought would be totally unreachable :D

Taking part in any Half Marathon's around the country at the end of the current plan your starting?

25 is brilliant. Good luck on Saturday!

There's a Half Marathon in Waterford on Saturday 11th December that was suggested to me. I might aim for that. It probably means I'll be missing out on the early December Christmas parties though!

    August 1st Run:
    Distance: 9.78km
    Time: 55min 47sec
    Pace: 5:42/km

My long run from the weekend, didn't get a chance to get a cycle in on Saturday as I was working.

I'm really looking forward to my 5km race next Saturday instead of a run, I'm aiming for a sub 25min 5km :)

    Fingers crossed...

You're doing excellent work. I am getting back into it today after being out for a month with an injury. Dont know how the 8K I am doing in galway at the weekend will go.

Are you finding the cycling a good break/chance from the running?

How were you managing prior to the injury?
Would 8km be too much too soon?

Its a nice break and gives certain muscles a break which is a nice, though I should really go on shorter cycles then 30 or 50km as it sometimes affects my run the next day. Live and learn I guess :)

I was up at 8K in one go (albeit a very slow 8K)
I can run as much as I can of it then walk the rest - thats the intention anyway as I doubt I'll be able to run it all.

30-50K sounds like a lot but it looks like cycling is a good way to mix it up a bit. Something I must look into.

All you can do is give it your best shot, hell if you can't manage to run the whole thing there's plenty more chances in the future :)

Last year before I started any of this running stuff I got the bike out one day and did 16km...I was wrecked, after I started running in Feb I took the bike out in April (I think) and managed 20km pretty easily.

Since then the longest distance I've done is 55km which took me a little over two hours, had somebody said to me 6 months ago that i'd do 55km cycle I would have told them no way in hell would I be able for it :D

    August 3rd Run:
    Distance: 6.52km
    Time: 36min 07sec
    Pace: 5:32/km

I set a new PB for fastest mile on this run (8min 38sec), I think if I can keep this type of pace I can def manage the 5km race this Saturday in 25min or less.

I'm thinking I'll do a 1-2km warm up before the 5km race just to get into it.

Thats good going. I started C25K about 2 months after you so I've been following your progress with interest as it matches my own (roughly). I haven't done any cycling as the bike has a puncture ;)

I ran 6.5K today and managed it in 43min dead so I'm about a minute per km slower than yourself but hopefully ill improve.

I ran a 5KM race about 3 weeks ago and managed it in 29mins which was about the same as my best in training runs. You should be able for 25mins or under but sure enjoy it no matter what happens. The one bit of advice id give is don't be too afraid to move close to the starting line before the race begins. When i say close i don't mean at the front row but don't go to the back either. I made the mistake of staying back as i thought I would hold up faster runners but the opposite happened; a lot of people had overestimated their ability and held up everyone else up for the first few minutes. It took me a while to get around walkers and slower moving parties before i could get into a nice stride.

    Anyway best of luck.

    August 4th Cycle:
    Distance: 16km
    Time: 25min

I got my new bike today, Trek 1.2 and here it is in all its glory :D:D:D:D:D

    August 5th Run:
    Distance: 6.52km
    Time: 36min 19sec
    Pace: 5:34/km

Felt really really tired for the first 5km, don't think I'm hydrating right at all these days

Didn't get time to do my 5km "race" during the weekend as part of my training however did take out the new bike for a spin on Sat & Sun.

    August 7th Cycle:
    Distance: 50.92km
    Time: 2hours 12min

    August 8th Cycle:
    Distance: 32.14km
    Time: 1hour 12min

Might aim for my 5km race this evening depending on how I'm feeling :)

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional South East Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 28,640 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cabaal

    August 9th Run: - 5km Race
    Distance: 5.02km
    Time: 26min 01sec
    Pace: 5:10/km

So annoyed I didn't manage my 5km race in 25min, I actually managed it in 25min 58sec...so close but yet so far
I guess all the cycling at the weekend may not have been the best idea, should have taken a rest day.

Ok I shouldn't be too pissed off given two months ago I never would have managed a 5km in this time or even near it :D

According to my training plan I have a 10km race in about 2-3 weeks so I'm aiming for about 50-52min if I can
