Happened to me while I was in New York for the first time recently.

I was sitting in Times Sq all on my own watching the hustle and bustle with a hot chocolate from Starbucks. All of a sudden this jittery young lad comes over to me with this leaflets about "Dianetics

He asked me to come with him to watch a film about it in there " Centre ". Reluctantly I went with him through this alleys and finally to New York's Scientology Centre. He obviously didn't want me to know it was Scientology.

So they put me in this tiny cinema room to watch a film about Dianetics, and I'm ****ting it thinking I'm going to be brainwashed:confused:. So I'm sitting there with one eye open sipping hot chocolate. After about 10 minutes it finished and I went to leave, but this crazy blonde sat me down again to purchase a book. I told her I had no money or credit card. ( she couldn't believe I was Irish) So then the little bee-oche opens my wallet and takes my laser card and starts swipping it through her machine and I'm like WTF!. I told her I was going to go get my brothers credit card and come back later, like fcuk!!

You'd want to have seen a little wicklow lad like me legging it home to the hotel with a story like this :P

    Thats like rape, with consent.

Unless you have a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome, you were in no way abducted. You went with someone who handed you a leaflet, sat through a movie and handed over your wallet to someone you never met before. One of the strangest hostage situations I ever heard of

    Nope.
Maybe they only target the gullible looking ones, like those who subscribe to boards :D

You sound like a very naive person, a bit of a pushover.

Stand up for yourself next time, maybe.

And a bit of advice for everyone here.

Scientology is a dangerous cult that destroys lives, splits up families and only wants your money.

    Stay well away from it.

ps, Peppapig, sorry if I sounded harsh there, but I have seen what Scientology has done to people, and what you experienced is exactly how they recruit people into the cult.

I posted this in another thread about religious cults before, but it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet!

As everyone else here has said, stay the hell away from them in future, OP!

They hauled me in to the place on Abbey Street in Dublin about fifteen years ago, when I was about eighteen. I was waiting for the bus to Leixlip just outside, sort of giddy from the night before, and hadn't heard of them before. They phrased it as a personality test. They really put the shiits up me; if I had the £70 that they wanted, I would have given it to them, just to get away. They were a bizarre mixture of persuasive, aggressive, demeaning, foreboding and cajoling.
Young and foolish. These days though, anyone who offered me a personality test would be offered an -oscopy of my choosing in return.

I'd do it just for the experience

I put this story up because it was a funny turn of events...

I was in no way gullible, it was mainly curiosity!

Sometimes too much curiosity (and not enough common sense) kills the cat?

Sorry, sounds like gullible to me.

You followed a "jittery" chap through backstreets in an unknown city? Christ, would you follow one of the lads that hang around on the Boardwalk on the Liffey down some back alley? ****'d if I would.

You let them look in your wallet, and let them take you laser card out. **** that, if someone tries that again, the correct response is, "Get the **** away from me," not "Here, take my valuables."

Actually, I'm short a bit of cash, where do you live? I've got something to show you.

I've never met a Scientologist along those bus routes or anywhere in Dublin, where did you meet them?

you do know , that unless its a cop
if someone come up to you and asks you to go somewhere with them
the standard response is to kick them in the balls - very hard.
