Recommend a CV writing service for an IT Manager?

    Hiya all!

    Currently unemployed and have been so for almost a year. Looking for work daily, get the odd interview here and there. Was reading another thread about ten minutes ago that referred to CV Coach and thought to myself that it might be €150 well spent to have someone work on my CV with me. However, they seem focused on Sales, can anyone recommend a similar company who would work with someone in IT?

    I wouldnt pay for someone to write my cv. Why dont you post it up here and remove the personal details and employer names and maybe people can give you some constructive feedback

    I'm in the same position OP (former IT Admin/Manager unemployed since November due to redundancy), but one thing I might suggest is looking at what you're emphasising on your CV as it is.

    It's been my experience that jobs in the support side of IT is a dry well. Most of the work is now done remotely or outsourced, and what's left (the "donkey work" that can't be done by these methods) is now targeted at fresh graduates who'll do the work of a sys admin for €25k - or for nothing as part of a "work placement" programme.

    Unless you have Windows AND Linux AND some programming AND scripting experience as well as a degree and a few MS/Cisco qualifications, or are highly specialised in what you do, then there doesn't seem to be much out there.

    You might be best emphasising your non-technical skills (Helpdesk/Project/Budgetary management) as I think that's where the opportunities for people like ourselves are.

    just a suggestion to keep focus on WHY you are sending the CV - if it is to gain an interview, then it should just be backing up a very good cover letter that makes it simple for the employer to WANT to meet you.

    the decision the employer is making is whether to MEET you, they are not yet deciding to offer a job; is your CV showing you are interesting/ worthwhile to meet as opposed to all the other bland CVS?

    Suggest you invest in yourself by reading up on CVs at library/ buying a book. Interesting psychology behind all this. Good Luck!!!!!
