Widest Street in Europe?

O'Connell street is the widest in Ireland but is it the widest in Europe. Tried Google but cant seem to find a definitive answer. I'm sure there is a wider street somewhere in Eastern Europe but my housemate is certain that O'Connell is the widest. So which of us is right???

The road around the Arch de Triumph in Paris is fairly wide... Perhaps that?

Ok, I know it's wiki answers and all..

''I believe it is Aleja Wojska Polskiego in Warsaw, Poland. It's almost 80 m wide, which is wider than Champs Elysee of Paris or Upper O'Connell St in Dublin (around 45 m wide)''

The Champs Elysées is 70m wide compared to O'Connel Street's 49m.
I'm not sure what the widest in Europe is, but I think the Avenida 9 Julio in Buenos Aires is the widest in the world at about 140m.

Did you never hear the term.. "No I wouldn't touch her, sher that'd be like throwing a sausage down O'Connell Street."

No it's not. But it's still wide ;)

I'm sure you read the link I posted. Assuming that its correct and no doubt you'll correct it if its wrong.

    Chinese Whispers.

There's nothing particularly big about the width of O'Connell Bridge.

It's wider than it is long, the only such bridge in Europe with that distinction.

you guy are ALL wrong!!! The widest street in Europe is a street in Norway, the name is quite unfortunate though, its called Pedo Drive in the east of the country. Its 195m wide .......SOURCE!!

Chinese whispers - as in when you don't read the OP properly and then post on something almost related but not actually the same subject?

Is it before or after you allow for the striking taxi drivers?

We might as well have read the Wiki page which states that Strokestown has the widest streets.

Like this wikipedia page that also says that O'Connell Street is the widest street in Ireland with Castleisland coming in second

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castleisland

I think we all know wiki cant be reliedupon to settle an argument

In Europe: Aleja Wojska Polskiego in Poland

In Ireland: Main Street, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon

AFIK strokestown in Roscommon was specifically built to win the title of widest road in Europe at the time it was built. It is wide for sure, cant find measurements anywhere though

An old man once told me that the main street in Castleisland is the widest street in Europe.

I'd imagine that he isn't that well travelled...

+1 on strokestown, wiki says it and I did the tour and even the tour said it. Feckin massive streets

Well you said wiki said it, I checked a few minutes ago and apparently the pathway in front of my house is now the widest street its like 4 foot I think.

Initially read the thread title as Wildest Street in Europe.

That would have been a much better thread.

I can state that O Connell St is in fact the widest street in the World at 500m wide. Over 10 times its length, which is only 45m long.

Bizarrely there are buildings at either end, so cars have to drive across its width to get anywhere.
