I'm currently going into my final year in mechanical eng, I'm considering going on to do a post grad and found cranfield to have some very interesting research areas and seems to have some good facilities. Has anyone any experience with this uni and what kind of reputation would thaey have with employers/

    Cheers

Very good reputation in Aeronautic Automotive and Motorsport engineering companies.

Lots of people working where I am (automotive oem) have post grads from there.

    Good luck.

My dad has an aeronautical masters from there. I spent a weekend on the airfield a few years for his graduation. Fantastic place.
Not sure what the engineering facilities are like though.

Its a good spot alright. But really depends on what the OP wants. For example, its an awful place to live. Its in no-mans land outside greater London with feck all around. So unless you really want to get into one of the industries I mentioned, then there are better places. And even in those industries, there are only certain jobs which the masters courses would suit.

For example Imperial in London would be better for most engineering related masters in particular anything to do with thermal or flow.

    Nuts.
It's six miles from Milton Keynes and half that to the M1.
About 40 mins to London, off peak.
You will need a car though.

    That's what i mean.

You need a car to get arouind, not the normal situation for an Irish student.

You can get by without a car there, the main problem is generally getting to Tesco, getting into MK or Bedford at the weekend for shopping or going out. But its generally easy enough to car pool with friends.
There are busses during the day that can get you to the close by towns & train stations. The university also runs buses to Tesco free of charge some evenings to shop.
The place is so close knit that there is a great chance you will make a large amount of new friends from the UK and mainly internationally.
It would certainly be a lot cheaper than studying in London, the Students Union bar is fairly cheap for drinks and is a lively spot on a Thursday & Friday night.
On most MSc courses you are kept pretty busy and wouldn't be using a car to get off of campus that often anyway.
Summer time is a different story when its just Thesis work and you are free, a car would be really handy at this stage.
Place has a great reputation in the UK and the standard is high.

There is an open day on the 25th of August. I'll be heading over.

Going there for a Masters in a month. Can't wait, looks like an excellent college although getting to Milton Keynes for shopping and the like appear to be a bit akward. Hope the social and sport side is active over there seeing as the campus is isolated

I worked for Nissan Technical Centre which is next door to Cranfield Uni, and I lived in a village a few miles away. Cranfield has a good rep among the automotive OEMs and 1st & 2nd tier suppliers. I had a good social life while living there, there is plenty to do, MK has a a lake with plenty of water sport activities and there are several ski slopes and an indoor one in MK. Bedford & Northampton are good spots for nightlife, mind you nothing beats a night out in Newcastle. I worked with a graduate from Cranfield, he's now working in California as a manager for Honda racing.
