Okay, i know Thin Lizzy didn't write this old folk tune but they were the first to record it.

Although i love the Lizzy version, i prefer the Metalica version because it rocks harder; it's faster and crunchier.

I like the original too but Dylan doesn't have the vocal range or the big band to truly capture the mood and sheer wealth of emotion in the song.

Again, both versions are great but i prefer this one as it stays true to the same tempo throughout, which i think suits the song better.

Ethereal, like a lot of Schnauss' work, it sounded a bit strange on the first hearing but after that I started to appreciate the rearrangement he did that actually surpasses the original (imo).

btw for some reason the only version of this song on Youtube has a slideshow of cars to it...oh well

I'd have to disagree there....Tiffany's orginal version is a classic! There's just something about the way she says "niiight" that does it for me

Buckley's Hallelujah, RAGE's Renegades of Funk and (although not imo opinion as good as the original but still good) Lykkie Lyi's Knocked Up aside, I think these versions are mostly dreadful, cheap and tackful. (I don't care what Trent Reznor says lol).

I'd go with Sinead O'Connor's version of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U, Hendrix's take on Dylan's All Along The Watchtower, Cream doing Crossroads, Nirvana doing Bowie's Man Who Sold The World etc.

Any Tom Waits , Bruce Springsteen ,Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond songs being covered are usually quality too.

If you like Sinead O'Connor's version you should try live lounge and get Stereophonics one. It's brilliant. Maybe not as good as hers but still worth a listen

Here's German metal band Deadlock covering Temple of Love by Sisters of Mercy. I think the vocals are much better in this version. The contrast between the male and female parts is great.
