Yeah, puns suck big time. tbh Rabies, you shoulda had the balls to sign this piece of legislation into action a few days before your retirement and leave your ex-co-mods to deal with the consequences. Sorta like Bill Clinton pardoning his brother or something.

    Ok.

    No.
You mean in the scumbag threads, muslim threads, headshop threads, Jake la Motta threads, recession threads, the constantly repeating self-affirmation threads and so on.

    It's AH,ffs.

Skip to page two, that's where all the serious discussion takes place. Or go to one of the serious forums.

We must be reading different threads. Plenty of moaning and groaning in my AH.

    :)
you're not here long enough to remember what it was like :)
All those threads you mentioned were still there, and I think always will be. AH is the melting pot of the general public.

Threads that have links to funny, weird, obscure, news worthy items are still good. Nice source of info at times.
Its what follows is ... meh

    Ha ha...

Hmmmm.. I wonder if I can take back the reigns for a few min... do it... then run :D

Good, original puns are cool. Obviously awful ones are cool too. The ones I can't stand are the well-known clever ones that people keep recycling until you want to punch them in the gall-bladder - the 'calloused fragile mystic' or 'no pun in ten did' ones for example.

I think the word pun should be banned. Not enough puns can be made from it.

Are you killing off the terrible jokes and other craic that goes along with using AH?.

    From the charter;
    What is After Hours?
After hours consists of the type of chat you have with your mates after a few pints at a lock in. You might disagree and argue your side, but if you get rowdy, the barmans gonna kick you out, so keep it civil. Typical subjects are anything thats in the days news, a funny story you heard, and terrible jokes and puns.

All I can say is that the unfunny people, you know who you are - have won the day.

    I've been about.

AH is so big and diverse and with so many elements that what annoys one poster will tickle another poster's belly.

And I think there are enough fans of puns that they'll never be consigned to the ranks of 'uncool'.

That said, they can be overdone at times, but any ban or otherwise would be unenforceable.

A lot of things in AH are cyclical and perhaps the current vogue of puns en masse will pass for a while but I'd say there here to stay.

If you can't beat them, pun them.

Ya...I think that is the point I was trying to make. But done really bad.
Puns can be fun. Too many and same ones over and over are painful.

    this is punbelievable.

At least read the flippin thread if your going to post a pun. That pun was used over a page ago!

This is the best news I have received from AH in years.

    Not really.

Most puns on AH were complete and utter garbage. They were used for thank whoring and thread spoiling.

Puns were good when it was only a small amount of people doing it, they had a decent level of wit and good timing on when to use them.

    But seriously.

    Ever get bored of them?
    Same sh!te over and over.

Any chance of decent discussion is lost.
Couldn't arsed reading past page one of most threads lately due to the thanks whoring that goes on.

Anyone miss having a proper on thread moan n' groan and discussion.

    tl;dr:pac:

    :(

I genuinely thought this was true and was happy. Then I read the bottom line stating it was BS :(

Was going to call for a ban on all Mary Harney jokes as well - they are just not funny.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

I'd rather lame puns than the people who constantly wander around boards trying to get everything removed that they don't agree with.

If I have to endure (and will do so without trying to get it removed) the constant barrage of Daily Mail outrage shite and the bellyaching about PC, do-gooders and liberals that passes for debate on AH sometimes, then I want my puns and silliness.

Hear hear, I too think they should be banned - some people here seem to be infatuated with her.
