I'm not on the dole - I'm self employed. This means that I can't claim any dole if I become unemployed.

was working, then claimed my stamps, before my stamps ran out if someone told me that I should have applied for a C.E scheme I would be able to get €250 pw for some type of work, but as I didnt I got means tested, not entitled to anything,if I was to try for J.S.A I would have to be working (on books)for I think 13 weeks first.
any fás course I want to do WILL be paid for me but I will get no allowence.

I was on the dole for 3 months, then I got a part time job, so now I'm working and getting a bit of welfare. Really hope to get a full time job soon. :(

I'm a full time student but I'm currently on very long holidays from may to october, so I'm working 8 hours every weekend! It's not enough and it gets very boring with no work during the week, but it's better than nothing in a country with almost 14% unemployment!

Really? A whole year... are you trying to do anything to get a job, upskill re-education when I was on it I did as much voluntary work as I could and started courses.....

Oh I'm trying. I'm doing FAS provided driving lessons, and I get a bit of contract work every few months (few days at a time). Problem is I'm trained in a sector of the economy that has no work available atm, and I can't train any higher. I volunteer regularly in the same sector (keeps me sane). There's nothing else I want to do.

Today I'm handing my CV into a recruitment agency in the hope of getting some temp office work to keep me going.

Have considered going back to college for the sake of it next year.

What sector do you work in?

    Ireland largest internet forum
If you tell us (don't have to be too specific), someone might know a job opening or at least point you in the right direction

Job hunting is all networking as you know

I do agree with you, its nearly at a stage where its who you know and where. And at least you are keeping yourself busy, well done. It can sometimes be hard to keep a poistive outlook on it all

Oh I know, I get the contract work through a friend in the sector :)

I work in pre-hospital care/ambulance/first aid. I'm actually doing pretty well considering. I've been head hunted by a new start up company (no work yet, they're waiting for regulator approval) and the other company gives me work sometimes. Nothing full time though. For me it's just a waiting game until the next time the ambulance service recruits. That's the only way you can make a decent career out of it.

All my eggs in one basket though! :o

I know very few people on the dole actually.

My son finished his leaving cert this year, and is in full time employment has are all his mates who've finished school & going onto third level.

I realise they're very lucky and I think God for their good luck, and I'd wish that same luck on anyone else looking for employment.

Out of my family and friends (and their families) I only know 2 people on the dole. The rest are still working at the jobs they had 4+ years ago.

    I'm not on the dole.

Working my bollocks off recently actually,
After a "Trimming of the fat" to cope with the recession madness, those of us that are left are working flat out..

I don't seem to have much more money than my mates who are on the dole tho :o

Maybe they just manage their money better than you.

I'm on the dole, and I can afford things that I need, and quite a few things that I want. This isn't because I get too much it's because I've negotiated my rent, watch what I spend on everything, and if I can't afford something I don't buy it.

I'm on the dole, nearly 3 months at this stage. But i'm the only one in my immediate family, and afaik, my whole family both sides, who is. Actually, i only know a few people unemployed now i think of it..

In the exact same boat, our company like most companies out their know they can make people work like slaves as we'd be very easily replaced. I'm a little tempted by all the free time and extra sleep the people on the dole get but I know if I was on the dole within a few weeks I'd be hating it. The vast majority of people I know are not on the dole
