    Todays news, is everybody sure they coughed up all the promised cash, in full???

    A receiver has been appointed to Citywest Hotel and Golf Club today on foot of a request from Bank of Scotland Ireland.

    The hotel, in Saggart, Co Dublin, has been open for 18 years and is owned by well-known businessman Jim Mansfield.

    Mr Mansfield has not commented but the hotel's chief executive Sean Whelan has described the decision to appoint a receiver as premature. He said they are considering their legal options.

    Mr Whelan said the hotel has been and still is in negotiations with what he called a substantial investor to buy the entire property.

    It is believed that HSS, the company which owns Citywest, owes Bank of Scotland Ireland €180m.

    Mansfield’s wealth was estimated at stg£264 million (€383.9 million) in a rich list compiled last year by Estates Gazette in Britain.

    The valuation was based largely on his ownership of 164 acres of land at Citywest. But Mansfield’s total land bank is believed to be closer to 2,200 acres, including about 1,000 acres that have been rezoned for housing.

    In a recent newspaper interview, Mansfield claimed that his business assets had a combined value of €1.6 billion.

    Other large events held at the centre have included the Rehab People of the Year awards and the Entrepreneur of the Year awards sponsored by Ernst & Young.

    Glynn’s tentacles have also extended into the political world, with Citywest the venue for the Taoiseach’s dinner and the ard fheiseanna of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein.
