In a generation or two attitudes will of course soften, look how far it has changed since the 70's.

We (in the North) also have to consider that Britain herself may not want to hold on to NI at some point in the future given the billions they have to pump in yearly.

Ireland likewise may not want much to do with us at that point also. Maybe the possibility of an independent state.

They are getting money from Ni and its the fastest population region by growth which means that it could get westminister loads of money.

They are more stricter is what i'm trying to say, now this is not me i'm not involved in any of that crap, i'd just hate irish rule.
And why would you hate that? What compromises would lead you to accept it?

Its a genuine question Lugha without even entertaining the idea of a UI. We know that NI is a heavily subsidised economy. If that subsidy was taken away so as to make the people that live there pay for the services they receive( like balance the books), will they be willing to cough up the dough as a test of their loyalty?

I wonder if Owens view is a one-off or a general one.(emigration to escape punitive taxes)

Well what do you expect me to do i'm not going to be in debt.

Because the uk has more advantages, it has a better economy for a start.

The North receives above billions each year in subsidies. It is not making the UK money. Past prime minsters have described the north as a scrounging sponge.

Northern Ireland has in it's history never been profitable, not likely to be in the near or distant future. Economically things are looking bleak.

    Nothing.

Hypothetically, if there was to be a United Ireland, say in 5 years time and there was a violent backlash by elements within Unionism, would you support it?

    Not totally correct

There was a period (IIRC in the 1950's) when exchequer receipts from NI exceeded public spending.

But since nobody has answered Ill ask once again.

If it is the case that Northern Ireland represents a net economic burden on the public purse does this amount to an argument for or against a United Ireland

This is a significant statement. There is a price on loyalty. What does the man from Antrim think?

It is this "Us" and "Them" attitude that has us in this situation.

So it doesn't matter what they want? Despite many willing to compromise?

And that of course is your right, no problem. what of the people who would like to like to see a United Ireland, would you compromise if they were in the majority?

What your confusing me? I said i don't want a united ireland and you think that i should change to wanting one because they want one? That is utterly selfish.

They want to be part of the Republic so it strikes me as a pretty sensible thing to do under the circumstances
