Peugeot 206 Air Conditioning

When I turn on the air con in my 206 theres a hissing/wailing sound. Its kinda hard to explain. Is it common and does it mean it needs to be topped up or something? I've used that Halfords stuff, the one with the guage attached is ideal.

Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong, it'll tell you if your

Air con even needs topping up and what level its at.
