My son's laptop appears to be screwed. It will not boot up when he tries to boot it it begins normally then flashes to a screen with corrupted and a load of numbers in red and then goes to a perform systems check or some such. He has tried booting in safe mode and gets the same thing. is it fecked??

Nope! I should have explained, my son is a student and therefore incapable of all things practical !. This situation began with a broken screen, cracked from behind. I bought a hdmi 3 meter cable so he could connect to the tv and work from there. the message appearing is start up repair which he has done but it keeps going back to the same message. It also says if you have connected an outside drive, disconnect and re-boot but there is no outside drive. The shop I bought the laptop from last November has a standard €300 repair charge

you will need to do this from another machine

    Please download ARCDC from Artellos.com.
    • Double click ARCDC.exe
    • Follow the dialog until you see 6 options. Please pick: Windows Professional SP2 & SP3 if that is the operating system for the machine, if its Vista then select that.
    • You will be prompted with a Terms of Use by Microsoft, please accept.
    • You will see a few dos screens flash by, this is normal.
    • Next you will be able to choose to add extra files. Select the Default Files.
    • The last window will allow you to burn the disk using BurnCDCC
Your ISO is located on your desktop.

If i'll be fixing this i'll plug off the hard disk from your laptop and plug it into the normal pc and look for any important files and then reinstall the windows.
This problem could appear if the laptop was shout down incorrectly or if you changed some windows files or switch off your laptop while the update was on.
