Dublin Messengers & Alleycats

I really love seeing the funky bikes that many couriers around Dublin seem to be cycling. I've also recently become aware of Alleycat races. Does anyone have any information about how exactly these are run? Are they ran frequently in Dublin and do you have to be a courier to take part? Peas.

The best places to find out any info are the dublinfgss message board, or the Dublin Messengers site, though most of the Alleycats are run via word of mouth for safety reasons (yeah, I know, most people don't think that Alleycat's have any notion of 'safety'!)
