Sometimes I just cant understand why lots of people drive a certain type of car and then again sometimes I can. People will be swayed by image, price , style , lots of stuff but at the end of the day , so many of the popular cars on the road are just the same old drizzle.

Now im being very specific about certain models here. For example , an E Class Merc with a nice big 6 cylinder engine is a nice car but an E200 is a shocker. BMW 1 Series is the same thing. A 116 is one of the worst cars I've ever driven. You'd only buy one because you lack self confidence / have an inadequacy in a certain department or your trying to keep up with the Jones's.

Anyway heres my little list of the worst cars that I just cant understand why people buy them ......Feel free to ad your own. :)

Hyunda Santa Fe ... Awful in every department except being sh!te

    2006_Hyundai_SantaFe_ext_1.jpg

2002 VW Polo.... If ever a car sold on image it was this rubbish!!!

    VW_Polo_BlueMotion.jpg

C200 ..... Where do I start , poor quality , over priced , sh!t in every department that it shouldn't be!!!

    448982.jpg

Kia Sorento .... If you like bouncing and have a thing for very nasty and cheap plastic then this is for you , otherwise its best avoided. Still you can always drop the " I've got a jeep " line with this hunk of sh!t

    5OD.jpg

Toyota Corolla ... Yeah it'll never stop ( in more ways than one :D ) but why would you put yourself through this everyday!!!

    107-toyota-corolla.jpg

    BMW 116i .... We have a winner.

    bmw-1-series-5-door.jpg

    Nissan Micra .....A close second.

    nissan-micra1.jpg

Anything to ad to the list !!!!!!!

I drove a 05 Corolla for a while and thought it was a great little car tbh.

My own Corolla, I hate it.

Spent 7 hours driving it today and all I wanted to do was get out.

Handling is crap, the interior is horrible and at the end of the journey you get out and can't remember anything except how dodgy the handling is.

I bought it as 'it'll never break down' after having a run of bad cars. In fairness it served its purpose well but its going in the next 6/7 months

I like my micra. I don't like the newer funny-shaped ones though.

Nissan Almera 1.5 petrol, just awful!

+1! on the Hyundau Santa Fe, hate them with a passion, especially the petrol 2wd version, with added chrome bar+spotlights, sidesteps and a big 4x4 sticker in the windscreen.......

Renault Laguna, nice car ruined by rubbish Renault reliability.

You were doing well un till the Corolla. Comfy car to be a passenger in and it works.

The Santa Fe is awful though.

No mater what car you post someone will love it and someone will hate it.

    Why bother?

Last August, whilst on holidays, I drove one of these in the UK

    rent-a-car-daewoo-matiz_.jpg

Easily the biggest pile of sh1te I've ever drove.

    A close second....

    Renault-model-28.jpg

Had a similer looking car out on loan whilst my own car was getting fixed. I sware has I known before I was getting that piece of sh1te I'd had said p1ss off!

I for one like the 1 series, just not in 116 form.

    img_8660.jpg

The above shaped Civics (gen 6?) are everywhere and I was actually revolted by the interior when I was given a lift in one. The arse scraping ride, the hideous cloth seats, the musty smell in the particular one I was in, the cheap plastic everywhere. I couldn't wait to get out. Whatever about the tuning appeal and potential for speed, I hated being inside one.

...wasn't even a good car anyway. Nevermind the fact that they built them badly , they were a total and utter crap car in everyway. Under powered with the smaller engines, crap handling , poor rear space, awful dash layout , the list goes on.

My dad has a 07, I really like being in it. Comfortable, quiet and refined, the cabin is well put together IMHO. Petty the engine and reliability is pure and utter sh1te... Its a petrol and you'd swear it was a diesel if you heard it.

Those Lagunas have to be the worst car on the road at the minute. My mate has one and he prefers walking. I call his car the Christmas tree as the warning lights are like fairy lights the way they come on and off

Agree with OP almost completely, but:

Not a good example imho. Even the small 4 pot engines with the supercharger are more than adequate for the E-class. And you still get the style, comfort, luxury and elegance that comes standard with the E-class. Any E-class! Very relaxed mile munchers these are...

And you know I like my big engined cars :D

    Toyota Avensis.

I can understand buying an old one for €600, but I just can't understand anyone spending serious money on something so dull. You could buy a W126 S-class, tax it and fuel it for years and it'd still work out cheaper than buying a new Avensis.

Dont confuse the point of the thread though, its not about being an un-reliable car , its about being a sh!te car which is far more than just how reliable it is ;)

Well if you want a full run down :D

Its slow (1.6l), heavy on fuel, eats tyres, poor handling unless its a motorway in which car you'll be revving the hell out of it to keep up, long throw on the gearbox, you sit on it not in it, parts are expensive, interior quality is poor (plastics and leather), everything is broken or just been fixed, the rear access is poor, the reversing sensors stick on and finally he is stuck with it as there are no fools around to buy it since the recession :D:D

I don't think "boring" really qualifies for a sh1te car. It can be reliable, comfortable and not to bad looking AND boring, but that doesn't really make it sh1te. If it ticks most of the boxes then its ok in my book.

I have an admiration for Corollas to be honest, don't think I'll ever buy one though.

Yeah I'd go with that too. A Focus falls into all the boring traps i.e medium family hatchback with hub caps and not much spec at entry level , but its not sh!te , infact far from it.

"Everyone" only drove them cause they were £99 a MONTH to lease at one stage, not cause they were perceived to be magically good...

Generally leased to people with no money, and returned rather than making the baloon payment leaving Fiat Auto Ireland with a rake of never serviced 4 year old wrecks. Oops.

The early 1.4 ones are close enough to sh!te, they don't age particularly well either.

I drive a 2002 VW Polo and I find it great. Handling is good and it's economical enough. Also its quite fast for a 1.2

Also forgot to add that it's quite reliable

That 206 design is over 12 years old, and still looks pretty damn good IMO. It also came with a far better spec than many of its rivals.

Thats true of pretty much every car though.

a 1 litre Micra is slower than grass growing, and that was the standard engine in them . Imagine if there was a "small " option.

D segment cars should have never come with 1.6 engines (in the traditional form with in and around 100bhp), they are all monumentallly slow, regardless of the badge.

Have you actually ever sat in a Type R? Comfy out with those recaros.. ill hand it to ya though, the interiors of jap cars are shocking...
