How do. My new living room has two light fittings going to a one gang switch, is it possible to change this to a double dimmer? Three wires to the switch, all grey; photo attached.

the answer looks like no iam afraid , the 2 wires on the top of the switch are in the common connection which is a feed live in and feed live onto another switch , the bottom wire in l1 is your switch wire to your light fitting , the 2 light fittings must be looped together so they are switched together on the one switch.1 gang dimmer required make sure not to overload it.

the first thing you should consider is are the bulbs in the fittings dimmable. if they are incandesent or halogen you have to take into account the load. if they are cfl or flouresent dimming them becomes a bit more complicated and a bit more exspensive.

you would have to get one more cable from the switch to either light fitting to do what you want to do.
