Motorcheck: Worth it for a 10 yr old car?

10 yr old Yaris; mileage relatively low.

I do think the seller is genuine (private) and believe them when they say they've had no issues. But the service history is a bit patchy. NCT pass certs for its past 3 tests are available. Would you class this as low risk or would the lack of a SH always ring alarm bells? Not sure at what point exactly its worth a Motorcheck when finance/ownership is unlikely to be an issue. I don't really think anymore of an inspection is justified given it won't cost a lot.

    Thanks.

I guess it all depends how much you are willing to gamble (and lose, if it came to it)

Chances are its properly all above board. Only one or two
things i'd check on the Yaris is haow the handbrake is pulling.
Have come across quite a few with stretched cable and listen for
    rattle form the timing chain.
    Great little car though.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not the purchase price alone you need to consider, but the potential cost of repairs that could be needed...

I might still be worth the risk, but do bear in mind that your exposure does probably strech beyond the purchase price of the car - e.g. you buy the car, something fails which you repair (maybe more than one), then something serious shows up with puts the car beyond economic repair - you're down the purchase price + whatever repairs you've had done (+ the costs of investigating the fatal issue).....

It's could be a straight up deal on a car in good nick, but if you're not able to be certain about that then.....
