Changing alloy wheels

I've recently bought a VW Golf mark 5 and I want to change the wheels that are currently on it to a set of alloys. The current tyres are in perfect shape and I want to keep them with the new wheels, can anyone recommend somewhere with a good selection of wheels that will change all them over and do the balancing etc under one roof at a reasonable price?

Ideally in Limerick but willing to go further if needs be.....

    Cheers

I'd shop online for wheels, and BBS alloys always make a golf nicer!

try online, lots of good deals.

btw. are the stock rims 15-inch you have on it now? Id get 16-inch, would definitely look better.

    Avoid reps

    What engine is in it?

If its one with decent power then go 18s and lower it,if you go 18s on standard suspension it will look like a tractor, unless its a GTI.

18s definitely look even better, but remember the ride won't feel as comfortable/soft was with 16s or 17s.

If your current wheels are steel wheels, they are probably 15" wheels. Most alloys people would put on for a golf would be 17's I'd imagine, so the tyres wouldn't fit.

Check out second hand for wheels here on boards, and maybe on some of the modified car websites.

I think you all misread the OP's post
He did specify he wanted to keep the original tyres.
He never asked what size should he fit or should he lower it as well

As mentioned above, if you're getting alloys you're probably going up a size or 2.
That means current tires will not fit.
Also, most alloys will take not only larger, but wider tires.
If you did manage to squeeze your tires onto alloys it would look ridiculous and stupid. And that is not the point of getting alloys.
Get a nice set of alloys with rubber on them and put your set up for sale, could be a bit of money in it.

I was pointing out the differences between the sizes most people choose for alloys, and most people have for steel wheels - in case they were unaware.

They didn't say what size they had, or intended to buy.

He/she also doesn't mention what size he/she currently has, besides this is boards.ie the original post has very little bearing on what can be posted in the rest of the thread. :D
