How do I post packages?

I really don't know how to post thing's other than a letter.
I want to post my ipod away to someone on adverts.ie but I don't know how I'd go about doing that.
Have an envelope and bubble wrap.

Do I need to get a certain stamp (posting to someone in the same county as me)?
Do I need to check the weight of the package (it's just an ipod classic on it's own)?
What's the highest price or the most likely price for this?
And one other thing, do I just drop it in a mail box, which could damage the package. Or do I bring it down to a post office?

I really appreciate the feedback :)

Bring it in the relavent box, prefferably addressed to your local post office and they'll sort it for ya.

Take it to the post office, tell the nice lady you want to post it, pay the lady. Job done

Take it to the post office and they'll do it all for you. They check its packed right and they put the stamps on.

    You'll be fine!
