Yes, they do - so buy in Italy, return to Italy; not contravening any European laws there. Here is the bit from their own Warranty info on the iPhone 3Gs:
"Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its authorized distributors originally sold the hardware product," And with the iPhone they have done exactly that, from the original right through to the 3G and 3Gs. No doubt iPhone 4 will be exactly them same. Plenty on this website can testify to it.

Just rang the Irish Apple store, got through to the warranty department, explained that I lived in Dublin, and my brother, who lives in Belfast was going to pick me up an iphone next Thursday.

Asked him what the warranty situation was as I didn't want to have to drive up to Belfast if there was a problem. He assured me that the same warranty covere the Rupublic and Northern Ireland...said there would be no problem, just ring back Apple and they would sort it by post.

16GB black version still available for store reservation for Belfast.

    really?

the 16 gig is no good for me, i'd need 32 gig tbh, lately ive been making better use of my space but rather have the extra space then not.

are you saying that you've reserved yourself an iPhone 4?
iPhone 4 32G sim free reserved for collection in Belfast Thursday week, once nobody throws a spanner in the works and starts insisting on me having a UK address!

I rang them to ask did I need to bring any documentation to pick up a sim free iPhone 4..the dude said just print out the confirmation email and have ID to show its actually you.

I asked could I pay with cash, he said 'I don't see why not'

Damn. Missed out on the 32gb but 16gb iPhone is now preordered. Pity my entire music library is over 20 gb.

i'd rather wait and get a 32 gig then settle for a 16 gig, yes it'll be a bit crap waiting, but better in the long run having the biggest one, i was lucky last year in getting the last 32 gig in drogheda.

you'd think they'd just scrap the 16 gig line, the fact they always have so many of em with the other selling out tells a tale all on its own.

i hope the wait won't be too long though for 32 gigs

Am I right in saying the 16gb sim free will be £499 in store? Or do we know yet?

Just hope Apple don't pull any crap like the "no cash for iPads" waffle they had in the states. Roll on the 24th!

You didn't try too hard now :p

BTW your link is not working double :p:D
ahh wasn't really paying attention to the thread :pac:

crap forgot that the link may be utilising sessions this shouldn't though: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone

but i think it might be too late now

edit i don't see why they would have an issue with taking cash or credit card for this.

as i said in the thread earlier, i was living in the states last year and whilst they had a problem with me using a debit card (standard ATM / laser card ) paying for the phone, they had no problem with me using my AIB irish credit card to buy the phone. even went in the next day and allowed me to pay for a friend to purchase an iphone on my card so long as i signed for it.

that was for contracts which they are anal about, this is going to be sim free, it will be just like buying a magic mouse except a tad more expensive...

Just got home from work and heard about this. It's fantastic news. Seems Apple really wanna get the iPhone 4 into as many hands as possible by the sounds of it.it's fantastic we dont have to pay the same price as sim free for the iPhone on Irish networks on pay as you go anymore. This will force vodafone and o2 to sell cheaper if they are locking them.

Got an email from Vodafone about their micro sims.

They are now available but only with data plans for the iPad atm :(.

Also will the Apple Store in Belfast be able to active the iPhone without a sim card? I just want to make sure the phone works properly before I leave.

last thing I want is to get home and find there is a problem with the phone.

How come the iphone is only around $250 in the u.s.a but costs bout 600 over here! it doesnt make sense. really want one but i wouldn't pay that much!

The iphone 3gs at the moment $99 online which is 80euro
the iphone 3gs in irelland online is now 499euro
thats a mark up of 600% but allowing for the vat maybe 500/400!

Sorry if it seems like i am complaining but we are been ripped off (and i really want one)!

It will be the same here with contract. US prices are contract only as you can't get the iPhone there any other way.

As far as I know the US price is with a 2 year contract and the higher price on the apple site here is because it's sim free with no commitment

get a o2 uk pay as you go sim whilst in belfast and activate it there and then in the shop.

might be worth your while bringing your laptop up to and piggy backing on some wifi.

that way in some insane parallel universe that cutting down you're sim you have currently doesn't work, you'll have the use of the non phone features of your iphone 4 until your operator here supplies a micro sim.

Is there anyway to get updates on when the iphone 4 will be up for preorder on the Irish apple site? Dont want to get home from work and they are all sold out.
