You failed part, or all, of your continuous assessment. You will receive a letter next week advising you what needs to be repeated or to contact your lecturers. You have until August sometime I think to submit it via that Moodle area. :)

i only had 1 subject which was fully CA and it got corrected on moodle i already got the result 67%

rest of the exams had class tests as CA... so if i failed something its the summer exam that i have to repeat and not actually the CA :/, or am i missing something?

I didn't meant 100% CA models - it applies to any module with CA.

You failed part or all of the CA in a model which tested you by the form of CA (either with or without a final end of year exam). Most modules have part CA and then a final written exam.

If you failed just part of a modules CA - as per the letter you will get next week - you will be instructed what needs to be done to pass the CA. Once done, you will then upload the CA on Moodle.

If you fail CA, you do not repeat the summer exam. You only repeat the summer exam if you fail that particular exam.

Example: Module X is made up of 50% CA and 50% end of year exam. The CA is broken up into class projects/assignments and a class exam. You failed part, or possibly (doubtful I would imagine) all of the CA of Module X. If you pass the end of year exam, you just need to re-do the CA. If you fail both, you need to re-do the CA and then re-set the exam in August. If you pass CA, and fail the exam, you just re-set the exam in August.

    Make sense?

(I'm assuming anyway, iv never see it used like that before)

well it does make sense, but... i had 30% CA in one module but 70% was exam, i had atleast 10% in the CA (from attendance alone), and well add that to my final exam, i'd say i got atleast 30/70, so nuff to pass deffo, but i did an awesome job on rest of the CA as well so i couldnt have failed this module

one module was 2 tests = 15% and lab reports = 15%, rest is exam, i failed 1 test (worth 7.5) , got 77% in the other test, and did a decent job on the lab reports, but the exam was a little iffy (probably failed the exam though, but the total was still borderline)

and btw, if lets say if i fail a subject and was banking on compensating another, do i have to repeat both? lets say i got 35 in one and 30 in another and passed the rest?

im not really worried about failing tbh i didnt put much work in at all, and it wud be my first time failing stuff as well and going into 3rd yr frm sept :o, i'll probably pass the repeats if its an exam

+ the inside of the module is empty, theres nothing to upload per se :/

+ i didnt have anything which was "computer based" other than the fully CA module which i passed and the other module which had 20% stuff to do on the computer etc which i passed as well, kinda pointless to have the module up on moodle if im re-sitting a summer exam rather than uploading/downloading stuff

You should be a lecturer Sully you seem to know the ins and outs of exam procedure.

Just have to wait and see, best advise I can give you at the moment.

I actually cant remember the compensation rules, but I think you need a high enough mark in the subject you wish to use to compensate the one you failed. In your example, you can not compensate because you can't take enough marks from the second exam to pull up the first one and still remain safe. Your case would cause subject 2 to fail.
+ the inside of the module is empty, theres nothing to upload per se :/

Iv never seen that system in place and only had to repeat a CA once - I was sent it out in the post with instructions on what I needed to do to repeat. I was purely taking a wild guess by the name of the module appearing around the time results are processed. :)

I assume its up to the lecturer to add the CA info, or, perhaps its just going to be an upload area.

Did you not any form of assignment where you needed to type out the results/answers/reports etc?

Its not that complicated and I am there over 4 years and was active in the Student Union body for part of that in addition to one of the political groups. Most students would be familiar with how it works.

What disappoints me is, lecturers on the WIT Board tend to hide behind their screen name and don't seem to offer much help to students but do join in on topics where they can make a remark or two but not offering any help. Besides making comments in class about students who use this forum. Constructive! ;)

TO COMPENSATE U NEED T HAVE AT LEAST 50 PRECENT IN ANOTHER SUBJECT THEN UR 35 PERCENT SUBJECYT WILL BE BROUGHT UP TO 40 AND THE 50 DOWN TO 40. O AND U NEED 35 AT LEAST IN THE SUBJECT WHICH U ARE COMPENSATING ANY LESS AND U CANT COMPENSATE O AND U CAN ONLY COMPENSATE 1 SUBJECT

In fairness boards is not the best place for a lecturer to give out advice esp relating to exam results/passing modules etc as they can be so student/course specific.

Have many of your lecturers made comments re Boards/students?

Wrt compensation you can compensate once each semester.

umm you can compensate 2 each semester and carry 2 failures, atleast in my course, and you need twice the difference over 40 in a subject, i.e if you get 35, you need to get over 50, but say you got 39, you only need to get 42 to compensate.

can you fail 1 subject and compensate 1? thats what i was asking i dont think you can compensate if you fail a subject

You can't compensate if you fail one mate.

I'm in that exact situation, I got 35% in one subject, and more than enough to compensate for that subject with a 72% in another. However, I also failed one of my subjects and have to pass that in the repeats, or I'll have failed that, and the one I can compensate on too.

I just checked and it's in my Moodle aswell. Had something similar after the semester 1 results and I didn't fail anything there, so I think it just shows up as default for all engineering students.

If you have to do repeat work you will be separately notified.

once each semester and twice over the whole year which means you could compensate twice in one semester

You could be a lecturer for any student on this forum but your under a screen name that isnt obvious. Likewise for the student, there not easily identifiable (in most cases). So, a lecturer could easily explain how compensation works, what a course is like, advise re applying for courses, etc etc etc. without knowing the student and visa-versa. Doesn't even have to identify themselves as a lecturer, though at times its obvious. At least to mods anyway.

A handful in my course but I believe its common enough around WIT. I recall one report that a lecturer (not in my course) telling their students that WIT was suing Boards.ie during the troubles about exam results.

I had that come up on my modules before event hough I passed everything. I think its just listed there in advance for students who have failed or think they did fail.

The rule can only be applied to a certain number of modules:
If you are examined in five modules or more in a semester, you may compensate in up to two modules in that semester. If you are examined in less than five modules in a semester, you may compensate in up to one module in that semester.

the wording is pretty vague, but im sure 2 semesters are never related, so you can compensate 4 subjects per year if you have 6 subjects per semester :O
