    I love gunne sax and jessica mc clintock - i had a lovely gunne sax dress that was a bit long, so took it into a tailor to get it shortened and totally made the hem crooked - it was already too short then to get adjusted and he was really insulted when i called him out on his shoddy job - blaming the darting on the dress! ugh. either way, i couldn't wear it - too short, so i sold it on.

    i'd love to see pics of this on! i'd look like a bad extra from little house on the prairie in one of those dresses.

    I blame kat151283 for making me wander onto this site! ;)
    It took a month to get this, after paying £10 on postage!

    I sent it back, didn't hang nicely at all, also too short. In my opinion far too expensive for how it looks on, cheapy material.

    Aw damn that's such a shame! I generally get my mum to do my alterations, she get's very cranky about it but at least I know she'll do a good job :D I'm actually bidding on another red one which is definately a gunne so when I get them and get a camera sorted I'll stick the pics up in the what I wore today thread. I have a pair of victorian style brown leather boots that should work or sandals and maybe my straw hat and a locket, not really sure yet though haven't thought that far yet! Trying to start a collection of gunnes, or maybe just victoriana and prairie style 70s dresses, got 2 beauties in a vintage shop a few weeks ago, floor length, lots of lace and little pearl buttons, the lovely victorian neckline etc. happy days! :)

    Lol no worries, I promise I'll stick some up as soon as I get a camera sorted. I have had a look at etsy alright, spotted this one not 100% sure, any thoughts yourself?

    I really like it myself but not sure how pull-offable it is.... ot helps being tall with these sorts of dresses I think! I think I like this one so much because she's a red head too so I can envision myself wearing it easily :)

    My oh my. Thats gorgeous! I swear you're actually turning me to the gunne side. I've always admired it from afar but now maxi dresses are 'in' I might just invest in a Gunne Sax! I have victorian style high heeled boots, but I'm not really a heels girl, I might try wedges instead.

    Bring on those pictures and thanks so much for that blog rec, I'm following it now!

    Hehe I definately think you should, I think you're like I was and just needed some inspiration/encouragement from other girls who're into them too. That blog was my tipping point when I saw how gorgeous all the girls looked in them I was like dammit I don't care if I look even more odd that usual I have to have one! Pls let me know if you find one! She did design quite a few styles and some of them are more wearable than others. I think the knee length ones are definately more wearable but I have 2 floor length victorian style ones myself that I've no prob wearing on a nice sunny day, I feel like a princess in them! :) I'm not into heels at all either, I think they'd work with nice leather sandals and I've seen them look amazing with mary janes, T-bars, brogues, cowboy boots and onther calf high boots. Quite versatile really, wedges would definately work too!

    Oh no don't give up yet! :p They're wicked expensive on ebay, I just typed gunne sax into google and then clicked on shopping results and saw some amazing ones there starting as low as 15 dollars. That way you can view the international ebay, etsy and other shop results all together. The main problem is finding one big enough, very few will go above 28inch on the waist.

    This crowd are good and have some nice ones: http://www.sydneysvintageclothing.com/

    Some beauts here;

    I would kill for this one myself, pity it's so pricey: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=ie7&q=adaam+speakers&rls=com.microsoft:en-ie:IE-Address&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ACAW_enIE354IE354

    Otherwise there's a fantastic vintage shop in cork that has some beautiful gunnes and other brands (all 60s-70s) in the same sort of styles and they're usually only about 30euro. If you're ever down pm and I'll tell you how to get there, it's such a great shop she only really sells dresses and coats (and non vintage accessories) but she's very selective about what she stocks unlike most vintage shops who buy masses of crap in bulk.

    It really needs to be the right one because they're so unique, you'll know when you find the one for you ;) I knew I had to have the brown one above because I just couldn't stop thinking about it all day ad everytime I looked at the pics I felt and fluffy and excited! :)

    EDIT: just remembered this is a good etsy shop for these dresses too:

    Yeah I did an international search on ebay, they were still expensive, don't think there's one I've found yet that is 'the one'.

    Ooh, whats the name of the shop in Cork? I haven't come across any in the overpriced vintage shops in Dublin.

    Just back from Italy where I got this t shirt, in H&M it's by blackbook!

    I now want a picture like this for my facebook!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,766 ✭✭✭squeakyduck

    Oh and I almost forgot these too! Kiko seems to be a huge brand in Italy, but their prices blew me away. €1.90 for this bottle. They had every color under the sun, I felt like a child in a sweet shop looking at them all. Huge single eye shadows for like €3.00 and foundations for under a tenner. They have really good staying power too! :)

    The purple is 293 in Pansy and the green is 296 in lawn green!

    Fraid I don't know the name as it's in a little tiny arcade so you don't tend to notice the signs above the shops, it's in the market parade which is part of the english market though so very easy to find!

    Found this too in case you need even more Gunne inspiration ;): http://www.flickr.com/groups/gunnesax/

    Topping my card up tomorrow to get myself this one too:

    I'm in love! Why isn't burgandy more common in clothes it's such a fantastic colour.

    I am seriously excited about these all ariving, three gunnes in a go, that counts as a collection right? :pac:

    Seriously. Drool. Most of the gunnes I'm finding are in white or navy which are colours I don't usually wear.
    Out of interest, what would you wear over the dress? Seems like none of my coats or cardigans would look right. Or even shoes for that matter.

    I would LOVE a pair of Swedish Hasbeens.

    I'm not really sure, I have a little cropped teal victorian riding style velvet jacket that should work and another grey victorian style jacket. I'd say something fitted and short. I would have thought a small fitted cardi of the pennies variety would do ok?

    Lol I would love a pair too, I think my new obsession might be dirndl dresses though..

    Seriously how cute is that!

    I love this one;

    Might try and get the mula together to buy it if no one else snaps it up!

    EDIT: have it on reserve now until I can scrape the pennies together, next rent week is going to be so so bad!

    :mad: Just got a message for the seller of the burgundy gunne to say she'd already reserved it for someone but forgot to mark and asked me if I wouldn't mind cancelling my order. So I got refunded.

    Got this one instead (for half the price which is a bonus I suppose);

    Got my Burberry Trench today, it's beeeeeeaaautiful. Khaki green with a dark khaki sheen. Something like this except uncropped, so it's fitting just past my kneecaps.

    I'm delighted. :)

    Was just gonna echo those sentiments considering what I bought this weekend! Praying for more sunshine so I can get some use out of them now. Prices are sterling as I got them in Belfast.

    The shirt was £24.99 in River Island.
    The Von Dutch flip-flops were £16.99 in River Island.
    The shorts were £30 in Next.

    A bit of sunshine now and I'll be happy as Larry :o

    Ladies, Gentlemen, boys n' girls. It's been brought to my attention that this thread is turning into a chat thread lately. Not on folks. There is a chat thread specifically for that purpose. This thread is about pics of your latest purchase. Lets get this thread back to what it should be and keep chat where is should be.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
