A dispute over 10euro. Seriously, quinn need to get a grip. Surely a loyal customer costs more!

After 4 years and over 7 grand of my money, Quinn lost my custom over 24euro.
When it came to renewing my insurance last year I decided to put my details into insure.ie and got a quote from AIG which was €24 cheaper than Quinn.
I called customer (don't) care and told them I had received a cheaper quote thinking they'd happily match it on a €740 policy.
The girl sounded amused when I told her why I was calling and her sarcastic tone as she told me they couldn't match the quote suggested she thought I was bluffing so I canceled the policy, more out of principle than my desire to save 24quid on the years insurance.

If you paid in full the amount quoted at the time then I'd recommend you tell them to cancel your policy and take your business elsewhere because it sounds like extortion if they're threatening to cancel your policy unless you pay up.
Its only a tenner and this may be a paranoid suggestion but who knows if they're trying it on with other customers?
The administrative cost to refund your money and send out your no-claims cert. etc. should set them back a bit more than a tenner and they'll also lose your loyal custom.
I'm amazed by their complete disregard for long-term customers.
I don't like to see Irish companies failing but they deserve all the trouble they are in.

    Jesus christ!

OP, just pay the damn tenner or cancel if it'll make you feel better.

This is what you call, a non issue.

If the bit in bold is actually what was said, then I'd be pissed off as well.
i renewed my car insurance with quinn direct in march.i paid by laser and they sent out all the forms and there were no problems.that was until today.
i got a voice mail asking could i ring them immediately, which i did.the operator then told me that when i renewed they made a mistake and took a tenner less than they should have and that if i didnt pay the balance in 7 days my cover would be cancelled.
im with quinn 6 years and now im really thinking of cancelling over this out of principle, what would you do.

Until the op says otherwise we have to assume that he got a renewal for €560 but quinn only took €550. They can and will cancel it for a tenner.

Is it worth it? Not in my bloody opinion but it is 1 reason not to go with Quinn. They are useless.

Pay the tenner and tell them to stuff it for the renewal quote next March.

Oh and I have to ask... who doesn't read the policy and letters when they come through the door? Don't assume the all mighty insurance company will get all the lil details right. If you didn't read your policy go do so now cos for all you know the cars details are wrong and if in an accident guess who won't be paying out even if it was their mistake??? That's right, Quinn-Direct!

Don't most companies have a clause where you can't have had a policy refused? What affect would this have on the OP if they let Quinn cancel their policy as this is Quinn refusing to insure them?

The OP may be better off just paying the €10 or cancelling the policy themselves. And then never darken Quinn's policies again.

If they ring again ask for everything in writing and refuse to entertain them on the phone.

Or charge them an "administration fee" of say 80 euros to pay them the tenner..... They'd do it to you.
I've been so tempted to do this in the past - you need something from them and there's an "administration fee",but when they foul up they just start hounding you to do stuff for free for them.

I will never ever deal with AA again - I seriously hope they have improved their systems since a few years ago - they were claiming to have sent out my NCB AND amended the current policy AND cancelled it AND renewed it at the same moment in time at one stage. Charged me an administration fee to get a "copy" of the phantom NCB that never arrived, and then proceeded to hound me to return an insurance disk for the year ahead that never existed either.

Exactly right - never assume insurance companies hire people capable of basic comprehension/data entry/maths (although considering how much you are paying for the pleasure you'd think they could afford them). Been there done that with wrong vehicle details, funny how "oh that doesn't really matter" when it suits them but they'd have a canary if you'd made the mistake and needed to claim..

Tranfer €10,25 into their accounts and in 3 months start bothering them that you want your 25 cents back.

TBH They are the Ryanair of the Car insurance industry.

I rang them about 8 or 9 times looking for my Green Card and they kept saying it was "In the post" about a year later I went to cancel my insurance and they said grand. Posted back the disc + Insurance cert.

Get a call 2 weeks later saying that they wouldn't cancel until I returned the greencard... and I'd have to continue paying it until the green card was returned.

I said "Good luck with that, I'm not living in Ireland anymore, I don't have an Irish bank account, I sold the car and you never sent me the Green Card"

The one on the phone was a total cow aswell.

To be fair though, most of the time they were quite pleasant on the phone, but never did what they were supposed to :)

For a company looking for Public Sympathy and for a company fighting for survival, they (QD) have some serious work to do.

just to add to this whole sorry story,i received a registered letter from quinn today reiterating everything that was said in the phone call.
surely they have spent more than a tenner trying to recover it?

OP, you still have not clarified whether they are trying to charge you €10 more than quote or whether they just charged you €10 less than quote originally. I would assume they charged you €10 less by mistake. If that is the case, you owe the money to them & their system will be showing you up as having outstanding premium due & they will take action if not collected. The €10 might set off the same cancellation process as complete non payment. I would pay it, safer than giving a very dodgy insurance company a loophole in the event of a claim.
Also, if they were to cancel your policy, they are circumstances where you wont get your money back either.

Youll have to pay it im with quinn since they started and the price is the price and if you dont like it move on. I still cant get cheaper insurance and i leave them thousands every year. Get over it its only a tenner.

They have the Finacial Regulator looking at their every move.
If they undercharged you (and you have admitted that they did) it WILL BE PICKED UP - and has been.
They now have to get the money they are owed.

    Accountants are very pedantic.
Pay the €10 and get on with your life - the person who undercharged you is probably not getting off so lightly.

Ya I agree, give them their tenner if they mistakenly undercharged. It has probably cost more in administrative fees already so it's of little benefit to them but hopefully the regulators are monitoring such action and recognise that there is no benefit chasing people for petty mistakes.
They need to concentrate on prevention not correction and regain some trust.
Sarason, for 2 years I assumed quinn were the cheapest until I checked last year and found better cover for slightly less on a website that no doubt takes their own cut. Re-check every month because you just never know.
