    Audiobooks are a cop out!

Well HBO havea great history of making great series and periodical drama's. The Wire, ROME, Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Deadwood, True Blood. They will have the budget and also have the history of gritty raw programming that will defo be needed for this haha!

Martin himself is taking a role as an excutive producer and is writing 1 episode per season. In the 1st season he's writing the 8th episode.

One of the writers wrote 25th Hour( great book) and Great movie with Ed Norton. ALso has wrotea few screenplays like Brothers, X-MEN: Wolverine, The Kite Runner and Troy. SO some good and varied pieces in there.

Sean Bean as Stark isnt too bad and Lena Headey as Cersei :P

There will be 10/11 episodes per season and each season will be each book. SO tahts plenty of tiem to fit in most of the intricacies. Thats if the 1st season doesn't tank!!

    Looking forward to it anyway.

I really looking forward to this series although a can't help but think that it'll distract George RR Martin and we won't see "A Dance with Dragons" any time soon....in fact i hope they don't make this show....suffering with post feast of crown jitters and need to read more NOW GOD DAMMIT NOW!! damn your procrastination George
    Calm down.....
I'm really happy HBO took this up there shows are normally fantastic, ignoring Sex and the City. I watched five minutes of "Legend of the Seeker" and it looked atrocious so thankfully ABC aren't making it(From my quick look at the Synopsis of "The Sword of Truth" it looks poor so i probably can't blame ABC quality of the show)

    Audiobooks are a cop out!

    1. Why? Unless you need to practice your reading, what's the problem? The audiobook IS the book. It's not like just watching the movie.

    2. When you have two kids under two, and spend 40 mins a day walking to work, they're ideal. We don't all have the luxury of an hour at bedtime :). And reading a book while walking through town is a tad dangerous, I find.

    3. FWIW, I've read all the books already.

Daenerys has been recast - Looks a bit old IMHO.

I can't stop listening! It gives a new dimension to the books. Highly recommended. :)

wheres good for downloading audiobooks mate? I want to start the whole series again from the begining, so the audiobook option might be best!

I think GRRM had no issue with an older Danys. She doesn't need be that young anyway.

I wouldn't encourage piracy, but there are torrents floating about about (google em). iTunes also sells them and many of the big e-tailers offer audio downloads - though they are pricey.

Make sure you find the Roy Dotrice read versions. There a couple of different versions but he's the business.

Hmm, maybe not but IIRC from the books she would have been about 14 in the first books and about 16 about the time the
    dragons
    made an appearance ?

Could be true okay - though still not sure why she needs to be a certain age anyhow. More important that Sansa and Arya are kids.

Of course in an ideal world they'd all the be ages of the book.

Drogo getting forceful and funky with a very young looking girl might not go down the best on tv

I think all of the children are going to look about five years older than they are in the book. Dany was 13 if I remember correctly, no way that actress looks anyway close to that.

    A Casting We Will Go

Auditions continue in Dublin, Belfast, and London for a whole bunch of parts, both major and minor, on HBO's GAME OF THRONES.

Sometimes it is a very hard job.

I've just reviewed the tapes of twelve young women reading for the part of Shae.

    Anyone interested???

Its been a while but wouldn't Shae be in the 2nd season at the earliest if they are going by the books?

That's a slight exaggeration. Dany, maybe, but Arya doesn't look much older than what she's meant to be.

Shae appeared towards the end of A Game of Thrones at Lord Tywin's army camp.

When has a movie ever been better than the book? The only time it really works is with short stories were the scriptwriter has space to work with.

Movies maybe but its a TV show so it shows some hope if it goes to current form, Dexter tv shows far superior to book, same with true blood.

He is still writing the bleedin thing apparently, but that's what we have been hearing for at least 5 years. Best stop worrying about it and just look forward to the tv series, at least it will actually start on time.

Just finished the first book a week or so ago. It was fantastic.

Read it because my uncle is playing Littlefinger, he mentioned the name of it. Glad it turned out to be so good though!

    Just started the second one.

Your uncle is Aiden Gillen? He was great in QAF as well as Carcetti in "The Wire".

Dr Poca, prepare for people to hate/love your uncle! Littlefinger is such a good character!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,617 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

Littlefinger is a key character (in the whole series). Thought Aiden Gillen was a good choice for the role, too. :)

It's definitely his kinda character :P

A key character? I suppose I've only finished the first one so don't spoil anything :D
But I was imagining he won't be in it that much really. I mean apart from a few conversations with Caetlyn and Ned he's not in the first one that much.

You'll be surprised at how some 'smaller' characters survive and a few 'bigger' ones meet bloody ends!

That's part of the beauty of the books - they have the ability to shock. Keep reading!

Oh I will. I'm about a fifth of the way through the second one. Definitely seems like it's building up into something huge!
