E-Trust AntiVirus Removal??

Hi all,

When I got my laptop there was an antivirus software on it called E-Trust. It is now out of date and i want to remove it from my laptop and put Norton on instead. When i go to the usual Add/Remove Programs to try get rid of it, a box pops up and says "Please wait while windows configures" and my computer freezes, I cant even use the curser and eventually have to switch it off at the mains. This is really frustrating me and I tried for hours last night to remove it and nothing seems to work, I wouldnt be the best at this kinda stuff, im fairly basic so Im just wondering does anyone have any easy to follow advice/steps on what i should do? I googled it and apparantely it seems to happen a lot with this particular software. Help!

Have you tried to disable the anti virus prior to using the uninstall feature?

There is some suggestions here.

I would recommend avast over norton.

Download and install Revo Uninstaller

Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
In the next window select the Advanced mode
Click Next to start uninstalling the program
Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
Once complete, click Next, then Finish
Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.

Thanks for the advice guys! My friend just had a look at it and has sorted it within 5 mins, he just used the Add/Remove Program and it worked straight away, so frustrating as I spent hours last nite trying!
