Could anybody tell me how to calculate molar ratio?

    The question is:
    At room temperature the stoichiometry of praseodymium oxide is Pr6O11. Calculate the molar ratio of Pr4+ and Pr3+ in this oxide.

    well if there are 11 oxygens that is a total of +22 of an oxidation state for the Pr, so there must be 2*3 + 4*4 = 22 so 2 4+ for every 1 3+, right?


    or am I wrong?

    Hi,

    The coefficients in a balanced equation can be used to write a molar ratio.
    Molar ratios are conversion factors that can be used to relate:

    1. Moles of product formed from a certain number of moles of reactant
    2. Moles of reactant needed to form a certain number of moles of a product.
    3. The number of moles of a particular reactant needed to completely react with a certain number of moles of a second reactant.

    For the following reaction:

    4 NH3 (g) + 5 O2 (g) --> 4 NO (g) + 6 H2O (g)

    The following molar ratios can be written:

    4 moles of NH3/5 moles of O2 OR 4 moles of NH3/4 moles of NO

    4 moles of NH3/6 moles of H2O OR 5 moles of O2/4 moles of NO
