How to add a small photo slideshow that will open over the old photo

Hi there, I am trying to add functionality to my parents site where the user will click on the six buttons below and an image will be displayed on top of the old image. I have no idea on how to do this and any help would be appreciated. Below is a snapshot of what I am trying to do. Thanks in advance.

Use lightbox instead. Much easier to use and very professional looking.
